The Role

Consider joining STERIS as a Senior Designer, where you will design, develop and document the manufacturing construction documentation for mechanical or electrical components and subassemblies to meet company, team and group goals. Collaborate with Design, Manufacturing, and Engineering to create production-ready components and product designs and drawings using 2D and 3D applications (AutoCAD, CREO).
What You'll Do
- Reliably prepares complete and accurate layouts: critical tolerance areas, component requirements and placement, material selection and manufacturability in support of current products, new designs, methods, materials, or process studies
- Creates accurate and complete drawings with regard to view, dimensioning, and conformance to company engineering specifications and drafting standards; assists in the final drafting checking function and aids in securing all necessary approvals for all drawings produced.
- Develops complex product designs and associated engineering documentation with limited guidance from engineers of lead designers.
- Solves problems independently utilizing problem solving techniques, referencing historical designs, referencing standards and other resources.
- Creates CAD models and assists with developing design layouts and drawings for a variety of components, sub-assemblies, processes, or equipment in support of projects.
- Interacts with vendors, suppliers, and consultants, on a limited basis, to assure compliance with requirements and specifications.
- Assesses and controls drafting and design work of drafting personnel and takes responsibility for accuracy needed in overall product documentation. Teaches and assists with the development of design personnel.
- Works as a collaborative team member in engineering projects. May assist with prototype assembly, parts expediting for prototypes, validation of new or existing products.
- Leads communication with vendors, sourcing, manufacturing, service and other functions to realize designs.
- Initiates ECNs through the Windchill system to implement simple to moderately complex design changes, following the corporate change process, while works with appropriate subject matter owners.
Education Degree
- High School Diploma or GED
- Associate's Degree in Design
What You Need To Be Successful
Education & Experience
- Technical Associate degree in Design or Drafting highly desired, vocational training preferred.
- Minimum of 4 years Designing experience.
- Strong Proficiency with advanced functions of technical software design packages (CREO or AutoCAD) and familiarity with 3D surfacing techniques required.
Skills and Abilities
- Proficient in advanced/complex technical design documentation (drafting, schematics, layouts, symbols)
- Expert in product lifecycle management through release and change management documentation.
- Experienced designing in multiple manufacturing methods within the technical function
- Hands-on aptitude within the technical area of expertise
- Proficient in Microsoft products; Excel, Word, Project, and Power Point.
- Effective written and verbal communication.
- Strong problem solving skills.
- Familiar with accepted drafting standards (ANSI Y14.5 or equivalent) and technical standards and areas such as Mechanical Engineer’s Handbook, electrical schematics, and piping diagrams is highly desired.
- Able to travel internationally. (5-10%)
