Position Summary

The Senior HR Data Analyst will help discover the information and insights hidden in vast amounts of people and business-related data.  Working with key stakeholders to understand the issues and business problems, the incumbent in this role will apply data mining techniques and knowledge of data structures to design and deliver actionable analysis, reporting and data.  This an energizing opportunity  to build and impact a the business globally. The work will evolve from requirements gathering and initial reporting to setting a global strategy for how data is reported from Human Resources. You will have the opportunity to work with Hadoop, Azure, SAP, Cognos, etc.


  • Collaborate with stakeholders and other partners to understand business needs
  • Understand and leverage available data sources, underlying architecture, and available tools
  • Use Business Intelligence and Data Science tools to analyze structured and unstructured, disparate data into meaningful, actionable information
  • Manage data wrangling from a variety of sources including SaaS applications, ERPs, MRPS, data warehouses, shadow databases, and unstructured sources
  • Lead data quality efforts for people data.  This includes the processing, cleansing, and verification of the integrity of the data.  Recommend and implement changes to improve data quality 
  • Responsible for creating an overall people analytics, business intelligence reporting roadmap
  • Manage the design, delivery and operationalization of reports and dashboards
  • Ensure adherence to STERIS data privacy, data protection and data security practices
  • Support the HR function through multiple analytical disciplines and in partnership with cross functional STERIS teams such as Enterprise Architecture, the Business Intelligence team, Financial Planning and Analysis, and HR teams such as Benefits, Compensation, Payroll, etc.
  • Manage and improve the STERIS annual compliance reporting process.
  • Establish an extensive knowledge of STERIS HR system architecture relating to connectivity, corporate systems integration and how people information flows across corporate systems.
  • Empower adoption of HR Analytics in business organizations across STERIS by championing its advantages, and developing competency amongst both technical and non-technical users.


Bachelor's Degree

Required Experience

  • Minimum 7 years in quantitative field such as Computer Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics or similar field required.  Master’s degree preferred.
  • 7+ years experience working with standard data analysis packages such as SAS, R, Python or others
  • 7+ years experience with Business Intelligence products such as Cognos, Tableau, etc.
  • 7+ years experience writing ANSI-standard SQL queries
  • 5+ years experience working with stakeholders to define requirements, collaborate throughout development, and present information in a clear, effective manner.
  • 2+ years hands-on experience creating and/or working with data structures such as data warehouse, dimensional modeling, ETL/ELT, big data platforms, analytical databases and streaming data sources; integration of multi-format databases from internal and external sources for BI and analytics consumption.
  • Experience with cloud-based business analytics environments.
  • Experience with cloud-based HR and HRIS systems and processes preferred (i.e. government compliance reporting, benefits systems/reporting, applicant tracking, time tracking systems, etc.)
  • Excellent written, verbal and presentation communication skills; ability to present complex information in a simple, clear manner.
  • Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills with the ability to tell a story with data
  • Collaborative mindset, with demonstrated skills interacting with and influencing all levels of the organization. 
  • Proven experience working in environments where formal project management was employed; experience with waterfall and agile project management methodologies desirable
  • Demonstrated experience working with multiple data platforms with a passion for learning new and emerging technologies.
  • Self-motivated with the capacity to work under tight deadlines.
  • Creative problem-solving skills.
  • A team player; able to mentor/coach team members and other colleagues.
