Position Summary

The Payroll Specialist performs payroll accounting and administrative duties to support the Payroll department including:  processing timekeeping, certified payroll reporting, staff training, setting up voluntary deductions, processing and auditing payroll, preparing and auditing payroll reports, processing garnishments and resolving payroll issues.

What You will Do
  • Responsible for creating and importing pay files related to 401k, commissions, etc.
  • Timely processing of various records, including labor input from Kronos, ETK (Electronic Time Keeping System) and MyTime.
  • Assist management with staff training and development of processes and procedures.
  • Provide support for Payroll Supervisor with regards to payroll transmissions and provide back up to Coordinators as needed.
  • Ensures compliance with all applicable local, state and federal wage and hour laws, by conducting monthly audits of database and make corrections as necessary.
  • Responds to and assists in resolving difficult and sensitive requests.
  • Reviews and processes payroll adjustments when necessary.
  • Answers inquiries from employees and managers while enforcing payroll policies. 
  • Prepares periodic, routine reports and conducts monthly audits of database to ensure integrity of payroll data and make corrections as necessary.
  • Partners with third party vendors as needed (ADP, Vanguard, etc.).
  • Assists supervisor with implementation projects that affect payroll and human resources.
  • Contributes and participates in company-wide and department-specific events as required, which may require some weekends and evenings.
  • High degree of attention to detail, accuracy and follow through is a must.
  • Payroll and HRIS systems contain highly sensitive and confidential information which requires this position to maintain the ability to handle all information with professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Other duties assigned as needed.
What You Need to be Successful
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required plus 7-8 years of multi-state payroll experience, or an Associate’s degree plus 5 years of multi-state payroll experience
  • Experience working with a payroll system is required, preferably ADP 
  • Experience working with Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel; Database data entry & reporting required
  • CPP or FPC preferred
  • Exhibits exceptional customer service skills; ability to work professionally with employees, and all levels of staff.
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to multi-task and handle deadline pressures. 
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of payroll policy and tax laws in various states.
  • Ability to handle highly confidential and sensitive information.
  • Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to audit and analyze data, and report trends and outcomes.
