Position Summary

As the Head of User Experience & Design, you will lead the user experience and digital design discipline of the Healthcare Digital Consultancy. Taking a holistic approach to the digital strategy, you will be accountable for delivering consistent and coherent aesthetic design and user experiences across the digital portfolio.  You will be an evangelist for user-centric design, with a passion for translating complex tasks into simple interactions, driving ease of use as one of our core competitive advantages. You will build a high performing team focused on providing thought leadership and consultation on digital experiences. You will nurture new ideas from original concept to full realization while taking leadership in refining existing products and services. You will collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, development teams, and technology suppliers to produce market-leading software solutions.

Interaction with different business groups is vital within this role and requires an understanding of business processes, compliance, and regulations. 

*This is a fully remote position that can be located anywhere in the Continental U.S. Daily meetings will occur with individuals in the U.K., and Eastern and Central time zones of the U.S.


•    Manage the User Experience & Design team of Healthcare Digital Solutions.
•    Take accountability for the successful consultation, creation, and implementation of a design system that presents a coherent and harmonious digital experience across multiple products and services in the digital portfolio.
•    Inspire teams beyond good usability to delight users by promoting beautiful, cutting-edge visual design. Provide capability leadership through coaching and mentorship. Identify and encourage areas for growth and improvement within the team.
•    Take responsibility for the planning and execution of the effective delivery of digital design services, coordinating with cross-functional colleagues to manage priorities and workloads across multiple projects.
•    Nurture a positive, creative, and inclusive atmosphere that encourages collaboration and boldness with constructive and respectful feedback. Embrace challenges with a positive outlook, take accountability for ensuring consensus and harmony.
•    Take accountability for the User Experience & Design team strategy, discovering and piloting new tools and resources that promote agile and lean methodologies.
•    Be the advocate of the Customer, sharing data and insights with the team to communicate Customer needs. Collaborate with peers in Digital Consultancy to plan, design, develop, and implement industry-leading digital experiences.
•    Be the voice of the User Experience & Design team; monitor and communicate progress across stakeholder groups. Celebrate success, identify, and remove barriers, maintain focus on delivering consistent value.
•    Lead specific digital initiatives, utilize your team, external suppliers and liaise with the rest of the Healthcare Digital Solutions organization to ensure successful execution of the objectives.
•    Contribute to the STERIS Digital Experience Group.

Required Experience

•    Bachelors degree with 8+ years of experience working in the digital and user experience sector with at least 5 years leading teams. 
•    In lieu of degree 15 years of experience working in the digital and user experience sector with at least 5 years leading teams. 
•    8+ years Digital design and user experience leadership, with a broad range of exposure to various methodologies and techniques.
•    5+ years Mentoring teams responsible for digital design and user experience, working with a broad range of diverse and complicated solutions.
•    4+ Experience of working in an AGILE or SCRUM software development methodology.
•    4+ Intermediate understanding of HTML/CSS, with direct experience optimizing design concepts around these technologies.
•    Displays a strong design aptitude, product common sense, and curiosity. Combined with a genuine love for products, people, and user experience.
•    Has extensive experience in designing and implementing industry-leading digital experiences.
•    Well-versed in digital design and user experience disciplines and principles with a keen sense of when to choose the right tool(s) for the job.
•    Able to visualize, own, and realize digital experiences from initial conception to collaborating with peers on implementation and deployment.
•    Can demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of user-centric design techniques and theories.
•    Is internally motivated, able to work proficiently both independently and in a team environment.
•    Strong communication skills. Able to work effectively with both internal and external colleagues and stakeholders.
•    Able to deliver solid designs to a tight deadline.
•    An expert eye for detail and consistency; no detail too small or insignificant.
•    Is comfortable with an iterative development process that includes accepting and managing feedback and constructive criticism.
•    Can demonstrate excellent collaborative skills.
•    Desirable experience in the healthcare software sector
