Position Summary

The Materials Manager is responsible to manage all aspects of material flow and to maintain control and accuracy over all inventories, including all transactions, planning, scheduling, cost, warehouse, receiving, and shipping to ensure that customer orders are fulfilled on time. You would be responsible and accountable for the quality, safety and productivity of the department and will be asked to collaborate with various internal stakeholders to ensure the achievement of departmental goals.


  • Develop, implement and manage planning process that incorporates make versus buy, capacity planning, and scheduling, inventory, material and cost elements to optimize inventory levels that allow for lean manufacturing.
  • Performs analysis of customer demand, sales forecasts and historical material usage to develop and execute build to order and build to forecast plans.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional business teams to develop the best economic strategy for production planning to support customer demand.
  • Establish and implement methods and best practices related to the systems and process that support inventory forecasting, purchasing, and material control.
  • Prepare customer delivery reports by collecting, analyzing and summarizing information and trends and uses information to proactively communicate potential late deliveries.  Develop daily, weekly, and monthly reports to monitor the receipt and movement of materials, as well as the corresponding inventory transactions.
  • Establishes and supervises production scheduling activities by monitoring material inventories, tracking progress of production and reviewing factors that affect schedules. Develop and direct all Demand Flow activities consistent with Lean manufacturing business strategies for material movement, handling, and transactions in line with site and corporate lean inventory targets.

  • ​​​​​Responsible for accuracy of inventory counts by implementing and managing, in conjunction with Finance, an inventory control system capable of identifying discrepancies in inventory counts and taking corrective action to guard against inconsistencies in the future Plan, implement, and monitor a regular regimen of physical inventory, as required.  
  • Manages the requisitioning of all raw materials and containers required to support production schedules and coordinates with Purchasing, Engineering and Quality to ensure materials are available when needed.
  • Achieves financial objectives by working with management group to prepare the materials budget, schedule expenditures, analyses variances and initiate corrective actions. 
  • Participates as a member of the operations team in making cross-functional operational decisions. Responsible for approving purchase requisitions as necessary. 
  • Maintain a safe and healthy work environment by implementing, maintaining, and aligning company polices that adhere to local, state and federal environmental, health and safety regulations.
  • Manages direct reports to provide accurate and timely documentation and support to Production Operations. 

Required Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree plus seven (7) years of production planning, inventory, production support or related experience in a manufacturing environment, with exposure to manufacturing business systems, materials management, purchasing and cost accounting.
  • OR High School Diploma plus fifteen (15) years of production planning, inventory, production support or related experience in a manufacturing environment, with exposure to manufacturing business systems, materials management, purchasing and cost accounting.
  • Working knowledge of MRP systems, parameters, and theory.
  • Working knowledge of J.I.T., Kanban, Product Leveling, VSM, and lean supply chain logistics to include lean manufacturing implementation skills.
  • Experience in low volume / high mix complex manufacturing environment with proven success record in lean supply chain logistics.
  • Computer skills must include AS400, Oracle, and/or Microsoft Office.

  • The schedule for this position is 100% onsite M-F.
