Position Summary

  • Lead and direct Engineering Team within the Mentor Consumable manufacturing sites.  
  • Responsible for the prioritization, design, development and overall management of engineering projects and processes across 4 locations.
  • Provide general process and equipment support, including installation oversight.  
  • Responsible for Total Productive Maintenance leadership
  • Responsible for the people management and functional competency development.
  • Responsible for the continuous improvements of engineering processes and overall execution  of engineering activities.


  • Directs the work of Engineers and engineering specialists that are responsible for general process and equipment support, including equipment installation oversight.
  • Facilitates communication and interaction among various functions to ensure understanding of critical deliverables and milestones. Develops the engineering functional plan / strategy and drives execution of established plan.
  • Identifies and implements continuous improvements for assigned engineering group. Assess and develop associate training and development plans.
  • Drives smooth transition across the organization from initial concept through development and project implementation and change control process.
  • Must ensure that employees have a safe working environment, report all injuries, hazards or potential hazards, follow appropriate work practices, use appropriate personal protective equipment when required, and follow established security procedures.  Also responsible for ensuring that employees under their supervision receive the necessary training on all applicable safety and security work practices and procedures
  • Fully adhere to all applicable FDA regulations, international guidelines and company policies at all times. Establishes and promote a work environment amongst co-workers and direct reports that supports compliance with the Quality System and company policy. 
  • Responsible for managing to the department budget and operating plans. 
  • Delivers critical, timely communications to involved or impacted functions. Identifies critical dependences, risks and contingency plans.  Proactively monitors progress, anticipating the effect of dependencies on schedule, project cost, etc.
  • Promotes a high performance culture within engineering team through strategic initiatives (functional competencies, performance management, development plans, process improvements). 
  • Manages interactions with vendors, suppliers, contractors and consultants to assure engineering projects comply with designs and specifications.

Education Degree

  • Bachelor's Degree

Required Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree (preferably Mechanical Engineering) and a minimum of 8 years experience in a manufacturing and engineering environment or equivalent combination of experience and education.
  • Minimum 5 Years Capital Equipment Experience 
  • Experience managing an engineering team
  • Possesses a broad technology knowledge (mechanical, electrical, software, systems)
  • Solid multitasking management skills required
  • Solid experience in technical problems solving
  • Experience in LEAN Methodologies
  • Ability to balance multiple projects on to provide optimum service to the business
  • Experience successfully managing project changes or development through a rigorous engineering process (ie. design controls)
  • Ability to drive continuous improvement for performance, quality, time and cost; solid planning and organization skills required.
  • Ability to work in a highly regulated environment.
  • Ability to make sound data driven business decisions. Strong attention to detail, follow-through skills.
  • Must have solid leadership, interpersonal and influencing skills. Demonstrated leadership skills including conflict resolution, assertiveness and negotiation skills required.  
  • Must have solid project management skills and have the ability to manage multiple, high priority situations at once. Ability to organize and prioritize work to meet deadlines. 
  • Must have good oral communication skills.
  • Must have good written communication skills – reports, presentations
