Position Summary

Duties

  • Leads and mentors a team of talented engineers, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment.
  • Leads project teams in definition, design, development, and verification of software-controlled electro-optical capital equipment that meet business needs and regulatory requirements.
  • Drives the planning, execution, and delivery of engineering projects according to STERIS procedures and standards and ensures adherence to these throughout the project.
  • Leads team with investigation of new technologies.
  • Identifies, evaluates, and implements tools and processes for continuously improving team performance.
  • Collaborates with groups outside of direct responsibilities including other engineering and scientific disciplines, Quality, Regulatory, Marketing, and Operations for project planning, analysis of product requirements, and solution proposals.
  • Sets objectives for direct reports, conducts regular performance reviews, and identifies opportunities for professional growth within the engineering team.

Required Experience

  • Bachelor or Advanced degree in Engineering, Physics, or other science. 
  • Experience with optical system design and development.
  • Experience with measurement or diagnostic systems.
  • 10 or more years of experience in the design and development of electronic and firmware systems.
  • 3 or more years of experience working in the medical device industry or other regulated industry which require formalized development processes strongly desired.
  • 3 or more years of experience in managing and coaching a team of engineers
  • Capable of solving complex engineering problems through accurate interpretation of requirements and test results.
  • Ability to analyze, define, and review marketing, systems, and electrical requirements.
  • Expertise in performing Failure Mode Effect Analyses and Fault Tree Analyses.
  • Expertise in Design for Manufacturing, Serviceability, and Reliability
  • Knowledge of medical device and electrical safety standards such as IEC 60601-1, IEC 61010-1, or similar standards
  • PMP Certification or training in project management is desirable.
  • Travels up to 10% including internationally.
