Position Summary
This position is responsible for effective, efficient and compliant administration of employee benefits and provides special guidance and assistance to various benefits staff and other company locations related to global benefit plans. Manages projects and vendors and liases with external service providers and internal departments including Huma Resources, Legal and Accounting/Finance and Audit. Surveys industry and/or community to determine company’s competitive position in employee benefits. Stays current on industry trends and compliance obligations. Performs analysis, prepares written materials and presentations. Develops, recommends, and installs approved, new or modified plans and employee benefit policies, and supervises administration of existing plans. Ensures plan compliance by participating in annual audits and ensuring ERISA reporting and disclosure requirements are met.
This is a hybrid position based in Mentor, OH.
Duties
- Ensures effective, efficient and compliant administration of employee benefits programs such as retirement plans; medical, prescription drug, life insurance plans; and long-term disability plans.
- Coaches and supports benefits team; solves complex problems and leads and/or participates in cross functional projects.
- Develops specifications for new plans or modifies existing plans to maintain company's competitive position in labor market, and obtain uniform benefit package for all company locations, where possible.
- Supports management’s decision making by analyzing benefit options and costs.
- Implements approved new plans and changes by preparing announcement material, booklets, and other media for communicating new plans to employees. Conducts employee meetings and arranges for enrollment of employees in optional plans. May coordinate, facilitate or conduct benefit seminars for employee and HR personnel. Revises and issues communications materials on benefits from time to time. May advise and counsel employees on existing benefits.
- Prepares and executes, with legal consultation, benefit documentation such as original and amended plan texts, benefit agreements and insurance policies. Instructs insurance carriers, trustees, and other administrative agencies outside the company to effect changes in benefit program. Ensures prompt and accurate compliance.
- Analyze the flow of employee benefits data and develops internal procedures, guidance, and training for staff to facilitate the timely and accurate update of employee information and benefits records.
- Identify necessary changes in business processes to ensure efficient and accurate workflow and the best utilization of system capabilities in order to fit the business needs. Works with benefits and HR staff to develop and implement improved processes.
- Assures company compliance with provisions of Employee Retirement Income Security Act. Supervises preparation of reports and applications required by law to be filed with federal and state agencies, such as Internal Revenue Service, Department of Labor, insurance commissioners, and other regulatory agencies. Reviews and analyzes changes to state and federal laws pertaining to benefits, and reports necessary or suggested changes to management. Coordinates company benefits, with government sponsored programs.
- Plans, develops, and/or participates in area and industry surveys. Analyzes results of surveys and develops specific recommendations for review by management.
- Special projects, as assigned (e.g. due diligence, integrations)
Supervisory Responsibilities
- This position will have direct supervision over 2-4 employees.
Required Experience
- Bachelor's Degree
- 10+ years business experience with at least 5 years progressive benefits administration experience
- Management experience preferred
- CEBS (Certified Employee Benefit Specialist) or CBP (Certified Benefits Professional) certification desirable
- Some global benefits knowledge/experience a plus

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills ; presentation skills/business presence.
- Up-to-date knowledge of relevant federal and state regulations and legislation is required, while knowledge of international benefits trends may be helpful in some cases
- Strong analytical skills with good working knowledge of systems and workflows and financial analysis principles; computer skills and “systems thinking” approach.
