Position Summary

The Leadership Development Program Manager will lead the design, implementation, evaluation and continued evolution of STERIS’ global leadership development strategy. This individual will partner closely with internal stakeholders to understand business priorities and leadership talent needs and identify, design and implement development interventions and programs to ensure STERIS has a robust pipeline of leaders capable of meeting business current and future business needs.    

Reporting to the Director, Talent Development, this role is a key member of STERIS’ global Talent Development team responsible for STERIS’ enterprise Talent Development processes, including performance management, employee engagement, talent review/succession planning and employee and leadership development. We are a highly collaborative team focused on designing methodologies, processes and tools to support effective assessment, development, deployment and retention of our key talent. This role is focused on developing and delivering targeted leadership development solutions to build the critical knowledge, skills abilities that have a measurable impact on STERIS’ leaders and business results.  


  1. Develops STERIS’ leadership development strategy, programs, methodologies, and tools to meet current and future global business needs. In partnership with the business and Talent Development team, develops the strategic leadership development goals and annual priorities.   
  2. Designs and implements leadership development programs, solutions and offerings for key leader segments, including emerging leaders, high potentials, first-time/new managers, frontline leaders (FLL) and mid-level leaders (Director level and below). Designs learning solutions in a variety of modalities, including Instructor-Led (ILT), virtual Instructor-Led (vILT), blended learning, on-demand, eLearning, web-based and mobile. 
  3. Partners with business leaders and HR colleagues to continually assess and identify talent needs and leadership capability gaps to inform leadership development strategies and approaches.
  4. Designs and supports the New Leader Assimilation process, tools and methodology. 
  5. Researches, implements and manages relevant leadership assessment tools, including psychometric and 360 assessments.
  6. Measures and assesses the effectiveness and impact of leadership development initiatives and leverages data and insights to inform the strategy and continuously enhance program offerings.
  7. Develops and executes an effective branding and communications strategy to ensure effective communication of the leadership development strategy and offerings. 
  8. Builds and maintains strong partnerships with business leaders and HR/Talent Development team members by focusing on collaboration, consultation, problem solving and alignment of strategies and initiatives. Ensures consistent communication and partnership with key stakeholders across the business.
  9. Acts as a key internal stakeholder and customer of STERIS’ Learning Management System (LMS) - STERIS University. Shapes processes, methodologies and tools to ensure effective implementation and use of the LMS to deploy, record and report leadership development content and utilization.  
  10. Builds and manages program budgets.
  11. Leads the Talent Development Coordinator, including providing ongoing direction, feedback and coaching.

Required Experience

  1. Minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible experience in Human Resources, with a minimum of 5 years of leadership development experience within a global manufacturing or service organization.
  2. Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management, Human Resources, Organizational Development or related field required.
  3. Minimum of 3 years’ experience in the following areas/disciplines:
    • Designing, developing and implementing impactful leadership development solutions and programs using a variety of innovative approaches
    • Needs assessment
    • Training evaluation
    • Competency models
    • Psychometric and behavioral assessment tools
    • Vendor management, negotiation and budget management    
  4. Experience working in a complex global organization where interaction across functions, regions and business units is key to success.
  5. Experience leading or supporting an organizational shift in development strategy and approach requiring significant change management.
  6. Deep knowledge and application of best-in-class leadership development strategies and methods to build capability and drive behavior change.
  7. Strong organizational, program and project management skills required to manage large scale programs, projects and budgets.
  8. Demonstrated excellence in verbal and written communication with an emphasis on influence, consultation and the creation of compelling business cases at all levels of the organization. ‘
  9. Strong executive presence. Skilled and comfortable communicating and connecting with individuals and groups at all levels of the organization.
  10. Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships with team members, HR colleagues, stakeholders and external vendors and partners.
  11. Proven ability to effectively reshape individual and organizational mindsets, strategies and approaches to talent development.
  12. Strong facilitation skills at all levels of the organization. Ability to deliver a variety of licensed leadership development programs and tools, including Korn Ferry, Blanchard, Gallup, VitalSmarts, DiSC, Hogan and Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI).   
  13. Strong analytical, problem solving and critical thinking skills to assess and continuously improve process, practices and tools in areas of responsibility.  
  14. Comfortable with complexity, ambiguity and change. Strong demonstrated learning agility.
  15. Working knowledge of current and effective online training solutions and delivery platforms, including Learning Management Systems (LMS).
