Position Summary

The Internal Audit internship at STERIS provides hands-on experience in evaluating business processes, internal controls, and compliance with company policies and regulations. Interns will assist in performing risk assessments, testing controls, and preparing audit documentation, gaining exposure to financial, operational, and I&T audits. This role offers the opportunity to develop analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills while learning industry best practices and audit methodologies at global healthcare organization. Additionally, interns will benefit from mentorship, networking opportunities, and insight into potential career paths within audit, finance/accounting, and compliance.

 

Key Program Info: 

  • Dates: Summer 2026 with potential for extension into the school year
  • Location: Mentor, OH
  • Work Environment: Remote - candidates will need to be within commuting distance of Mentor office for onsite events as needed

What You'll Do as an Internal Audit Intern

  • Assist in execution of operational, I&T, and financial audits.
  • Attend on-site and/or virtual inventory verification procedures and perform related audit work.
  • Perform testing to evaluate the design and operating effectiveness of internal controls, business processes, and procedures.
  • Prepare conclusions through workpapers for review by Internal Audit management
  • Perform follow-up with process owners to address questions and request documentation.
  • Ensure adequate and timely corrective action taken by management on audit recommendations.
  • Shadow team members.
  • Support administrative tasks (e.g., scheduling, file management).

The Experience, Skills and Abilities Needed

Required:

  • Currently enrolled in a four-year undergraduate degree program in Business or Information Technology fields such as Accounting, Finance, Economics, Internal Audit, Computer Science, or Information Technology.
  • Sophomore year requirements must be completed by program start date (May 2026)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel and Word.

 

Preferred:

  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0

 

Other:

  • Clear and effective communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical/quantitative skills.
  • Ability to analyze requirements and troubleshoot problems.
  • Adaptability to changing priorities.
  • Self-motivated and a quick learner.

Pay rate for this opportunity is $20/hr.

 

Minimum pay rates offered will comply with county/city minimums, if higher than range listed.  Pay rates are based on a number of factors, including but not limited to local labor market costs, years of relevant experience, education, professional certifications, foreign language fluency, etc.
