The opportunity:

 

As part of the Healthcare Americas HR Team this position will partner with the VP & General Manager and their leadership team, as well as lead a team of seven HR partners that are delivering HR partnership, support, and solutions to the Infection Prevention Technologies (IPT) business which includes sales, operations, marketing, R&D, and technology functions.

 

The HR Director, serves as an HR Business Partner and lead of the HR function for their assigned client groups.  This responsibility includes supporting the management teams and associates to develop talent, develop leaders, build organizational capability, manage organizational change, drive culture change, define organizational needs, determine the training and development needs and strategy, determine hiring needs, resolve employee issues, and contribute to the achievement of the overall business objectives.  This individual must possess the ability to quickly grasp the business objectives and strategies of multiple client groups and work within a matrixed, global environment to support the achievement of those objectives. 

 

This role will partner directly with assigned STERIS Senior Management Team members and their leadership teams and will coordinate and align services with Vice President, HR and across the Healthcare Americas HR Team.

 

What you will do:

  1. Plan, develop, implement, and administer HR processes and programs that increase the productivity, competence, and effectiveness of assigned client groups.  Leverage data to inform initiatives, approach, and measure impact of activities.
  2. Consult with business and/or functional leaders in areas such as organizational assessment, succession planning, organizational structure, workforce planning, and change management to strengthen overall organizational capability.
  3. Implement and manage execution of enterprise HR processes and programs that positively impact assigned business groups.  Enterprise programs include:  talent reviews and succession planning, performance management, compensation planning and annual reward cycle, development programs, talent acquisition, employee engagement, and HR routine management, and others.
  4. Manage positive employee relations and employee experience.  Counsel and/or coach employees and managers regarding employee relations issues including performance management, investigate and resolve  formal/informal complaints, discipline and/or terminations in line with local culture and the business and legal environment.
  5. Drive employee engagement and experience through promotion of a positive company culture while balancing employee concerns with all levels of company goals. Interpret employee engagement data for assigned client groups.  Provide oversight to leaders in client groups to enable them to drive their own action plans.
  6. Ensure effective talent management including assessment and development as the organization grows both organically as well as through acquisition. Lead managers in assessing and identifying resources to meet employee/departmental training needs and encouragement of employees to continuously develop their skills in their field of work.  Partner with senior leadership to develop a robust succession plan.
  7. Lead routine management work in business, determining root cause of turnover and other KPIs and executing countermeasures to drive improvements.  
  8. Accountable for ensuring the accuracy of client group HR data by utilizing routine data audits and communicating importance of data quality control as the HR team processes changes.  Provides management with relevant reports and people analytics (turnover, time to offer, etc.) as needed.  
  9. Lead talent acquisition strategy by managing various recruiting activities in partnership with the talent acquisition team, including staffing coordination and job requisition management.  
  10. Manage the annual performance and reward cycle.  Oversee leadership participation and ensure performance based and equitable reviews are done in timely manner.
  11. Accountable for HR leadership for the global business groups leveraging regional HR partners to provide localized support to the business.  Coordinate serviced delivery in the most efficient and effective manner possible leveraging this extended network of HR team members.  
  12. Remain up-to-date on relevant US and state employment laws and other human resources compliance issues.  Update management on policies/processes as necessary.  Responsible for oversight and coordination of any regulatory requirements.
  13. Develop and support Affirmative Action Plans and DE & I initiatives.  Possess an understanding of AAP/EEOC compliance and promotion of diversity and inclusion.
  14. Responsible for ensuring the accuracy of client group information by utilizing the HR Services team to maintain and update employee and HR data.  Provides management with relevant reports as needed.
  15. Participate and/or lead HR projects focused on continuous improvement of core programs and services.

Other important details:

  • This position is based in Mentor, OH; hybrid schedule is available.
  • Provide leadership, direction and coaching to direct reports which includes 2-3 HR Business Partners.   
  • Ability to travel up to 10%

What you’ll need:

  1. At least 15 years of progressive Human Resources experience in a large, public, multi-national company.  Global and Corporate office experience is highly desirable.
  2. At least 10 years of serving as an HR business partner, in progressive responsibilities supporting varying and diverse client groups; ideally working with knowledge workers.
  3. Bachelor's degree in either Human Resources or a business-related field required; an MBA or Masters is strongly preferred.
  4. At least 3 years of experience leading HR Generalists/Managers and building a strong Customer focused HR team.
  5. Demonstrated success translating business strategies into organizational and HR strategies and actions.
  6. Comprehensive HR experience, including a complete understanding of and hands-on exposure to the full mix of HR functions (preferably in a global environment). 
  7. Experience with process improvement approaches (Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, Practical Process Improvement, etc.)
  8. Experience working across a complex organizational matrix. A track record of positive results and enhancing or driving cultural change.
  9. He/she should be someone who is sought out for their opinion and advice and who can forge and maintain close relationships across all constituencies.
  10. Self-motivated; bias for action.
  11. Effective negotiating and influencing skills.
  12. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
  13. Strong analytical skills with advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. 
  14. Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  15. Excellent multi-tasking, priority setting capabilities.
