Position Summary

The Field Service Engineer position is an entry-level engineering assignment within the Service Engineering department.  Primary responsibilities include; serviceability/reliability reviews, service documentation development, high-level troubleshooting/technical support on a narrow product focus, and initial product training to technical support personnel and service trainers.  Requirements include Bachelors' degree in Engineering or related field, exceptional communication skills and practical experience with the service and repair of electronic and/or electromechanical equipment. 10% travel may be required.

Duties

  • Participate in the new product development process assuring that all Service requirements are completed prior to product release.  Requirements include: Design reviews for serviceability/reliability, service plan generation, service documentation and procedure development, defining service parts, outlining service training and tracking equipment performance. 
  • Create, review and update technical documentation including; IQOQ documentation, Site Acceptance Tests (SAT), service and maintenance manuals, field servicing procedures, etc.  
  • Act as an escalation point for resolution of technical issues on given product assignment. Provide onsite technical support, as necessary. 
  • Troubleshoot and analyze technical problems. Collaborate cross-functionally with current products engineering, quality, supply chain, research and development, etc. to resolve immediate issues and implement changes to prevent future problems. 
  • Identify and implement service operational improvement ideas for assigned product responsibilities. 
  • Perform service and maintenance training on assigned products to technical support personnel, field service representatives, and customers.
  • Develop service kits and qualify service replacement parts.

Education Degree

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering

Required Skills & Experience

 

  • Minimum of one year experience in the service and repair of both electronic and electromechanical equipment. 
  • Strong organization, planning and analytical skills. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with all levels of employees, as well as Customers and other external contacts.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products:  Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
  • Demonstrated ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions and interpret a variety of technical data and documents. 
  • Proficiency in control programming and program modification for industrial style PLC and/or PC controls preferred.
  • Contributes in a team effort by performing according to the STERIS Code of Business Conduct, and other directives; supporting the directives and decisions of higher-level management; accomplishing other duties as assigned. 
  • Protects company confidential information by properly storing, retrieving and disseminating such information only to those authorized.

  • Knows and understands work requirements and completes tasks as required.  Some opportunity for making independent decisions, requiring both judgment and interpretation.   
  • Interfaces with R&D, vendors, manufacturing and Customers as an initial point of contact for resolution of technical issues and/or Customer relations issues resulting from equipment problems.  Possesses some latitude for making decisions on product performance, quality, reliability, safety and regulatory issues.
