Position Summary

In this position, you will provide support to the Test Technician Supervisor via executing prototyping tasks and performing testing activities in accordance with predefined system requirements and test plans, as well as data processing and general interactions with electrical and/or mechanical engineering products. This internship will begin in Fall 2019.


Assist Mentor IPT Research and Development with electrical/controls and/or mechanical engineering activities including, but not limited to, the following:

  • Assist laboratory and engineering staff with fabrication and assembly of prototype systems
  • Operate prototype systems under supervision of engineering staff
  • Assist with rework of prototype systems as design and operational requirements are developed
  • Assist with operation of Steam, VHP, and Liquid-Chemical sterilizers
  • Responsible for preparing test sets for sterilization testing
  • Working with technicians and engineers to run test cycles and monitor sterilization equipment (SW Testing)
  • Support technicians and engineers with data recording and processing
  • Responsible for assembling metal and instrument packs for testing
  • Be able to support Engineering with machine assembly

Required Experience

Job Requirements
This position requires an understanding of the electrical/controls and/or mechanical products and physical phenomena being evaluated as part of the developmental efforts.  Sufficient mathematical and hands-on testing skills are required in order to appropriately operate equipment safely and accurately, as well as to properly collect and analyze data. The ideal candidate shall possess the technical aptitude; he/she should be a team player that is detail oriented, communicates well, and follows through.

  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs
  • Must be able to stand for a complete shift, if necessary
  • Must be able to follow written and verbal instruction from testing documentation and from Supervisor


  • Hands-on assembly and troubleshooting (for prototype builds and bring-ups)
  • Coursework in mathematics and physics; Labs in STEM
  • Experience/coursework with Microsoft Office (i.e. Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • CAD tool experience a plus
  • Measuring equipment (including DAQs) experience is preferred
  • Previous experience/coursework with electro-mechanical sensors and actuators (i.e. Temperature Devices – TC’s/RTD’s, Pressure Devices – Switches/Transducers, Solenoid Valves, Limit/Level Switches, Pneumatics, Motors, etc) is desirable, but not required
  • Previous experience/coursework with software programming languages and tools (i.e. C/C++, scripting, LabVIEW) is desirable, but not required
