Position Summary

The Electrical Engineer will join a highly collaborative, dedicated Engineering team. This team focuses their efforts on Research and Development for Operating Room equipment utilized in hospitals around the world. This role will support more senior engineers in the design, development and integration of innovative embedded control systems into new and legacy medical devices.

Products are developed to meet FDA requirements.  Therefore, the candidate must demonstrate an understanding of designing product in a regulated environment.


  • Works as a collaborative team member on new product development projects in R&D to deliver innovative technical solutions.
  • Under the direction of more senior-level engineers:
    • Applies electrical engineering principles to analyze and solve technical problems related to complex controls system, subsystems and subassemblies.
    • Assists in the selection of sensors, motors, valves, and associated controls required for the design.
    • Supports feasibility studies on embedded control system design options to optimize or confirm capabilities, quality and reliability of designs.
    • Applies design and industry standards (e.g. IPC, IEC, NEC) to develop designs that meet industry requirements.
    • Interprets component and system level technical specifications to implement product designs and improvements.
    • Prepare high quality electrical documentation (e.g. system schematics, equipment drawings, theory of operation, BOMs).
    • Builds, modifies and/or tests electrical design solutions for embedded control systems.
    • Provides directions to designer assigned as support personnel to generate detail models, layouts and drawings.
    • Provide guidance to technicians/designers supporting build and assembly of R&D prototypes and test units.
    • Interacts with vendors, suppliers, and engineering consultants in the selection of components that comply with requirements and specifications.
  • Derives, interprets, and summarizes engineering test data.
  • Prepares reports, charts, graphs, and other required documents.
  • Assists in creating test procedures and setups, for conducting design verification (electrical, thermal, EMC, etc.).
  • Completes required tasks on time with guidance and support.
  • Support manufacturing transfer of designs into production.

Required Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or other related Technical Field.
  • 2 + years of experience supporting controls system and/or embedded hardware design.
  • Experience designing within a multi-discipline project development environment.
  • Self motifivated and innovative, yet an exceptional team player.
  • Basic knowledge of 2D CAD Modeling tools.
  • Ability to use 2D CAD tools to design electrical harness, electrical system schematic and control system enclosures.
  • Ability to read and use electrical schematics and component data sheets for design and troubleshooting.
  • Hands-on experience with wiring up and debugging breadboard prototypes.
  • Enjoy being hands-on in the lab and in the details (e.g. soldering, crimping, building cables).
  • Ability to use electrical test equipment (e.g. multimeters, oscilloscopes, network analyzers, function generators, logical analyzers).
  • Exposure to design tools used for printed circuit board schematic capture and layout.
  • Some working knowledge in electrical wiring and harnesses, AC/DC signal separation principles, electrical schematic design is desirable.
  • Exposure to programming languages used in embedded or test/simulation environments helpful (C, Python, etc), a plus.
  • Exposure to simulation & modeling tools is a plus.
