Position Summary

The Docketing Clerk will need to demonstrate accuracy, strong organization and prioritization skills as well as be articulate, service-oriented and flexible.  This position will support the Legal team with all intellectual property (patent and trademark) docket and related databases, including updates and deadlines, as well as report generation and status updates as required. They will also assist with the facilitation of patent annuity payments, tracking of deadlines and maintain open communication with Legal Counsel. 

What You Will Do
  • Significant data-entry responsibilities relating to intellectual property (patent and trademark) docket and related databases, including updates and deadlines, as well as report generation and status updates as required.
  • Facilitate patent annuity payments, track upcoming deadlines, communicate with decision-makers, implement decisions directly with annuity management vendors, update database accordingly.
  • Update and ensure timely and accurate patent and TM data and documentation within STERIS’s files and databases, including electronic matter management systems.
  • Process incoming correspondence, route and/or file as needed.  Attend meetings and communicate with inventors, marketing personnel, other clients, attorneys and paralegals as needed.
  • Miscellaneous and ad hoc projects as assigned by the department head (Chief IP Counsel)  
What You Need to be Successful
  • High school diploma required; Associates degree preferred.
  • 1-5 years’ relevant experience required; experience with docketing department of patent law firm or corporation preferred. 
  • Demonstratable experience with data entry/processing and complex data management systems preferred
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong computer skills and a solid knowledge of Word, Excel and Outlook are required.  
  • Experience with electronic matter management systems and docketing systems preferred. 
  • Experience in intellectual property preferred.  
  • Must work well independently as well as a contributing member of a hardworking team, must demonstrate discretion with legally sensitive information, work effectively in time-sensitive situations, have strong prioritization skills and sound judgment, be conscientious, willing to learn, and have a strong work ethic and the ability to multi-task.
