Position Summary

Vision strategically and successfully execute?   Come grow with in this Director role, leading the VHP Equipment & Consumables Mentor based business group. You will be directly responsible for the research and development, engineering, application project management, supply chain and manufacturing of VHP Equipment and Consumables and have influence over the VHP group P&L.  Working closely with the cross-functional VHP team including Product Management, HR, Quality, Service and Finance and acting as the VHP Group and facility leader, you will develop and execute an organizational vision while managing the overall VHP Group operations, facility and employee performance. 


Group Leadership 

  • Manages the VHP Group including employees, operations, facility, budget, operating expenses and capital investments. Develops and implements general management strategies to support financial, organizational and Customer objectives. 
  • Provides leadership and vision for the VHP Group to foster a strong cross-functional team spirit and a culture of collaboration and accountability while supporting Life Science strategic imperatives. Leads group employee engagement initiatives. 

Engineering, Research & Development Leadership 

  • Acts as the primary leader of VHP technology research, New Product Development (NPD), sustaining engineering and design control activities. 
  • Owns the project management process and manages project execution to ensure program targets are met (quality, costs, schedule, scope, etc.).  Establishes milestones and monitors adherence to master plans and schedules identifies program problems and manages change to scope/schedule/cost/resources. 
  • Collaborates with R&D leaders across STERIS for mutual support. 

Manufacturing and Supply Chain Management 

  • Responsible for VHP manufacturing and supply chain operations including part procurement, planning and scheduling, product assembly and testing. 
  • Leads organization in driving for KPI goals including product quality, on-time shipments, production efficiency, product cost, burden rate and inventory.

Safety and Quality Champion 

  • Champions initiatives to maintain a safe working environment for all employees. Sponsors safety committee and related safety initiatives across all areas of the facility. Establishes a quality culture based on lean and continuous improvement with a focus on overall Customer Experience. 
  • Engages and supports the corporate quality team and other groups outside of LS as needed to improve VHP Customer Experience and support revenue growth. 

Application Project Management 

  • Leads field VHP Application Team supporting Customers through technical design, planning and specifying activities throughout the globe.
  • Provides comprehensive on-site support, pre and post sale, to ensure the VHP solution provided meets Customers expectations.
  • Manages project flow, coordinates resources and tracks progress against milestones and deliverables.
  • Plans and executes VHP Cycle Development Services, drives for attainment of related revenue and profit objectives.

Partnership & Collaboration: Sales, Service and Marketing 

  • Partners with Life Sciences Equipment and Services global Sales, Service departments in support of sales and service activities aimed at achieving plan revenue and margin.
  • Manages SSQ/SSO process to meet unique Customer requirements and drive sales while aligning with quality standards, engineering resources and product strategy. 
  • Partners with global marketing team to support upstream and downstream marketing initiatives. 

Education Degree

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business or Management

Required Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical/Electrical/Biomedical Engineering required. Master’s degree in Engineering, Science or Management preferred.
  • 15+ years’ experience in R & D environment
  • Minimum 10 years of general management experience-   Quality/Manufacturing/NPD / LCM programs
  • Minimum 5 years Capital Equipment experience (Medical Devices, Appliances, Defense, Aerospace)
  • Strong project management skills required
  • Integral role in Multi-Disciplinary Programs (Electrical, Mechanical, Software)
  • Demonstrated equivalent leadership experience will be considered.


Preferred Experience

  • Six Sigma Experience
  • Expertise in LEAN Methodologies
  • Master’s in Engineering Discipline, MBA
  • Expertise in more than one of the following functional areas: Operations, Supply Chain, Quality
  • PMP Certification


  • Must have excellent leadership, interpersonal and influencing skills and have a demonstrated ability to lead global, cross-functional, multidisciplinary teams. Demonstrated leadership skills including conflict resolution, assertiveness and negotiation skills required.
  • Experience leading teams in projects from initial concept, through development and verification/ validation testing, and into manufacturing.  Ability to balance customer, manufacturing, and business requirements to expedite launch of the right product to market.
  • Management of programs successfully through stage gate methodologies.  Track record of managing programs to schedule and budget. Ability to organize and prioritize work to meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in driving continuous improvement for performance, quality, time and cost; strong planning and organizational skills required. Sets the standard for timeliness, work ethic, and personal integrity.
  • Ability to lead and collaborate within a team-based matrix organization at the executive level in all business functions, levels and cultures.  Experience in successfully coordinating with cross-functional departments, (e.g. Legal, Regulatory, Operations, Supply Chain, Scientific Affairs, Marketing, Quality, Service, Etc.)
  • Demonstrated ability to make sound data driven business decisions; understand, track, drill down and question activities and issues in all functional areas.  Strong attention to detail, follow-through skills.
  • Must have excellent project management skills and have the ability to manage multiple, high priority situations at once.
  • Excellent oral & written communication skills to interact with Sales, Service and Customers and produce high quality reports and presentations.
