Position Summary

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer of the corporation, the Director of Global Facilities directs overall engineering, strategic planning, design, construction, operation and development, security, safety, care and upkeep of all physical facilities across the organization globally.  Researches, identifies, and assesses system-wide capital renewal and deferred maintenance needs. Ensures compliance with applicable federal, state, and designated regulatory agency(s) rules and regulations. Manages staff, budgets, and goals/objectives in accordance with standards and expectations.

Duties

  • Responsible for developing and managing expense and capital budgets. Lead in compiling Capital Expenses in accordance with corporate expenditure authorization policies. 
  • Develops and manages annual budget, negotiates and approves contractors. 
  • Designs, establishes, and maintains staffing and an organizational structure to effectively accomplish the functions assigned; recruits, employs, supervises and evaluates departmental staff; directs the implementation of management development skills training, and safety program/practices. 
  • Select and manage a variety of vendors used to properly maintain and secure our facilities.   
  • Lead the task of identifying new facilities to meet current and future business demands. Serve as project manager of new build construction or remodeling projects as directed by and in conjunction with the Chief Financial Officer and leadership stakeholders.   
  • Develops integrated capital project priority listings, for facilities renewal and replacement, and creates facility related short-and long-term strategic plans in coordination with business leadership.  For existing facilities lead the internal space design changes that are required to meet space utilization demands at the local level.  
  • Implements strategies for continuous improvement of system infrastructure, systems, operations, and energy conservation. 
  • Fully engage with local management of all new acquisitions, leading and establishing of coordinated approach to the management of the corporate facilities portfolio. 
  • Oversees the functioning of all building systems to include those in a highly regulated environment – including: mechanical, electrical, fire / life safety, plumbing and waste management. 
  • Manage and maintain STERIS owned or leased records of all company facilities. Manage and review all existing lease contracts identifying key areas of risk, hazards, break clauses and early termination clauses whether favorable or unfavorable.  Work closely with our corporate legal team in the negotiation of lease terms favorable to the business and the long-term facility strategy of STERIS. Lead the energy management and sustainability initiatives with the assistance of contractors, mechanical and electrical engineers. 
  • Manages complex projects involving active and proposed capital projects from conception to creation.  Oversees / leads contractors involved in facility projects (large & small) and delivery of services. 
  • Ensure compliance with all local building code regulations and zoning laws. (national and international) 
  • Partner with the Chief Security Officer to ensure compliance with STERIS security policies and maintained throughout the STERIS facility portfolio.

Education Degree

  • Bachelor's Degree

Required Experience

  • International and U.S. experience for Facility and property management systems, zoning laws and building code regulations – 15 years of progressive experience.   
  • Minimum of 10 years of leadership experience. 
  • Knowledge and experience in building operations and facilities maintenance. 
  • Experience supervising a staff, negotiating contracts, preparing RFP's, and managing a variety of vendor relationships is required. 
  • Experience establishing long and short-range facility plans and preparing expense and capital budgets to support renewal and new facility development projects.
