The Role

The full-time intern will be working directly with the STERIS Regulatory Cybersecurity team, internal stakeholders and external security industry partners to ensure that STERIS does its part to defend our critical healthcare products against today’s threats and collaborate as a part of STERIS’ shared responsibility to helping our healthcare Customers build a more secure and resilient healthcare sector infrastructure for the future.

What You'll Do

Cybersecurity Engineer Intern will support cyber activities for new product development and sustaining of existing products to develop or improve cyber hygiene in our healthcare products. Through the cyber related activities like static code analysis, vulnerability scanning, web application scanning, security risk assessment, networking and security log analysis, the Cybersecurity Intern will gain experience with incorporating cybersecurity program risk management into the secure product development life cycle of healthcare products developed in a regulated healthcare industry.

  • The set up of a vulnerability scanner
  • Participate in cyber risk assessments and related analysis activities
  • Assist with development and maintenance of Corporate repository of security questionnaire responses
  • Assist with cybersecurity and privacy procedure/work instruction development and reviews
  • Assist with development and maintenance of Asset Inventory
  • Assist with the operationalizing of STERIS vulnerability disclosure program
  • Manage Security Vulnerability Notification channel for internal stakeholders
  • Participate in security industry information sharing forum meetings and webinars
  • Collaborate with other functions on cybersecurity deliverables for engineering projects

What You Need To Be Successful

  • Current enrollment in a boot camp, trade school or matriculating degree program in Cybersecurity, Networking, Security, Information Assurance, Information Systems, Information Technology, Computer Science, Software Engineering and or other related fields.

What Will Help You


  • Completion of at least one year of cyber-related course work.
  • Coursework in Networking, Security, Systems Administration (Linux or Windows Servers)
  • Lab work or exposure to vulnerability scanning, malware detection and remediation methods
  • Previous experience with  virtual machines such as Virtual Box and VM Ware
  • Experience writing scripts (i.e., Powershell, Python or similar)
  • Exposure to code analysis tools
  • Experience with Microsoft Office 365 Applications
  • Exposure to Metasploit and Kali Linux, desired
  • Exposure to Software Lifecycle Development Processes
