The Field Service Technician is responsible for troubleshooting, answering technical questions, performing preventative maintenance, traveling to customer sites, and fixing equipment issues related to STERIS Endoscopy’s capital equipment used in hospitals and outpatient clinical settings.  The role also requires providing an exceptional customer experience while delivering technical support. This position has real-world impact as this role works to resolve issues and answer questions to ensure a positive Customer experience. 
 

Duties
  • Interface directly with Customers to perform over the phone troubleshooting as well as traveling to the customer-site to perform maintenance and repair work. This role will require approximately 50%-75% travel.
  • Professionally and promptly responds and provides technical support to Customer questions and complaints quickly and efficiently.  
  • Perform medical device repairs. Skillset includes: electrical, mechanical and pneumatic device troubleshooting, use of electrical test equipment including oscilloscope and various analyzers, soldering, disassembly and reassembly of devices/systems, using and updating device software, use of device maintenance software and computers.
  • Hands-on with capital equipment to troubleshoot issues and advise Customers and/or Sales Representatives on action to take. This requires technical expertise with electro-mechanical equipment. 
  • Perform routine testing maintenance and calibration of all STERIS Endoscopy capital equipment. 
  • Documents critical failures per quality requirements, initiates corrective action and escalates issue to appropriate engineering associate when appropriate.
  • Maintains product knowledge on current and future small capital products.
  • Provide direct support to Sales team as consultant.
  • Assists with the review and recommends engineering changes to maintenance manuals, engineering drawings and other service support reference documentation.
  • Provides on-call, after hours technical support to internal and external Customers when required.
  • Participates in qualification and serviceability review of new and prior Healthcare small capital equipment.
  • Escalates reported technical, quality and safety related product complaints to appropriate engineering and management associates for corrective action.
  • Provides periodic, product specific, technical skill training to company associates as required.
  • Other duties may be added as identified.
     
Required Experience

Education/Experience:

  • Associate degree or equivalent, apprenticeship or comparable specialized study in mechanical and/or electrical engineering
  • 2+ years electro-mechanical technical experience 
  • Vocational/Technical Training strongly preferred

Skills/Competencies:

  • Strong, hands-on experience in electrical/electronics and mechanical technologies. Experienced with test equipment such as multimeter, oscilloscope, volumetric flow meter, etc.
  • Proven ability to handle technical situations and perform device maintenance.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and solve problems, interpret technical documents and literature.
  • Ability to isolate and identify difficult device issues and recommend best action to resolve. 
  • Ability to create unique solutions for device issues.
  • Must have good communication skills and be able to interface with customers in a positive, professional manner
  • Must be computer literate, an analytical thinker with good engineering aptitude
