Position Summary

The Manager, Business Development will assist the VP, Business Development in all aspects with the financial and strategic evaluation, planning and execution of all steps of the transaction process.  Primary focus will include initiating, analyzing, negotiating and closing transactions with third parties that enable the company to grow profitably.  Types of transactions that the position will work on include acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures, distribution agreements, licensing arrangements, and technology acquisitions. 


This role will have the additional responsibility of managing post-acquisition integration work for shared service functions with the objective of effectively integrating business operations, employee cultures, and corporate governance so that the full value of the opportunity is realized.


Business Development:  75%


  1. Lead multi-disciplinary teams in business development activities including financial analysis, strategic and competitive analysis, due diligence and implementation.
  2. Prepare detailed financial modeling of new business opportunities, their value, and their impact on STERIS.  Must be proficient with excel and financial modeling (transaction and public comparables, discounted cash flow, internal rate of return, return on invested capital).
  3. Work with business operating managers to compile strategic market analyses on new or existing product or geographic markets.
  4. Work with managers throughout the Company to help them pursue external development opportunities.
  5. Lead due diligence to understand all potential risks and validate business model assumptions.
  6. Develop knowledge of various types of contracts and structure and negotiate transaction related contracts.
  7. Ability to manage complex processes involving multiple constituents.
  8. Prepare Strategic Invement Opportunity (SIP) memo and powerpoints, outlining the business case justifying the investment. 
  9. Present findings to leadership and upper management clearly.

Duties - cont'd

Acquisition Integration Management: 25%

  1. Develop and improve acquisition integration standard work using lean tools.
  2. Interact with Business Unit Leaders (GM/VP Level) to properly execute integration standard work.
  3. Manages misses to action plans and key performance indicators for all integration activity.
  4. Develop and prepare integration reports to senior leadership on a routine basis to properly characterize risks during the integration period.

Education Degree

  • Bachelor's Degree

Required Experience

  • Minimum of seven years of progressive, related experience in corporate strategy, acquisitions & divestitures, and/or corporate finance.
  • Bachelor’s degree required – finance, accounting or business

Preferred Experience

  • Prior investment banking experience preferred


  • Strong financial acumen, broad business skill set and strong strategic thinking capabilities.
  • A self-starter who can manage major activities and initiatives front-to-back.
  • Prioritization skills and the ability to multi-task.
  • Computer Application Skills: MS Office / PowerPoint / Excel.
  • Analyze, identify, and interpret financial, operational, and other business data to help formulate recommendations and strategy.
  • Ability to partner effectively with senior leadership and other key stakeholders internally or with external business development targets. 
  • Familiar with contracts and contract negotiations.
  • Receives direction and guidance from the VP, Business Development on strategic matters, but will operation and execute independently in partnership with business leadership.

Working Conditions

  • This position will be based in our Mentor office. 
  • National and International travel is required: 15-20%
