Position Summary
The Applications Development Lead is a key role of the project design and visualization group at STERIS. This role is responsible for managing all aspects of applications that promote product sales, drive project development and enable Customer satisfaction. The Applications Development Lead will manage the Software Development Lifecycle of these applications by working with external development teams and internal teams (engineering, marketing, manufacturing, sales, and IT) to maintain effectiveness of the applications, add user functionality as needed and update libraries & databases. This position is responsible for creating training material, implementing training sessions and managing users. This Applications Development Lead role requires working knowledge in agile methodologies, system design methodologies, Unity applications, technical writing, enterprise software products, web applications, desktop applications and database systems.
What You'll do as an Applications Development Lead
Business Partnership/Engagement – 45%
- Leads Requirements Gathering sessions to formulate and define objectives
- Clearly communicates business needs to development teams in an organized and timely manner
- Develops and maintains system and business process documentation
- Works with software developers to help them understand requirements and to ensure the completeness and accuracy of related documents and specifications
- Provides end-user notification and training for new or changed system functionality
- Manage development and service budgets with External Vendors
Technical Partnership/Engagement – 45%
- Works within an agile framework to ensure that internal and partnering vendors’ development teams consistently delivering business value
- Maintains a development backlog by capturing User Stories, Acceptance Criteria or other tools and technique
- Participates in Quality Assurance cycles and executes testing to ensure applications satisfy end user requirements
- Actively participates in reviews of specifications, requirements, etc. to develop, document and implement repeatable test plans
- Participates in technical design reviews to help identify issues early in the development lifecycle
- Works closely with the Manager, Advanced Visualization & Engineering to identify, develop and implement applications and strategies to ensure STERIS’s leadership position in the project business
- Works closely with other Advanced Visualization & Engineering teams to plan work effectively
Production Support – 10%
- Drive projects for development of data and 2D/3D content necessary to align with overlapping sales and design objectives of the project business sector. This includes content from Engineering, R&D, Product Management, Marketing and External Vendors
- Diagnoses and manages software defects and system anomalies to a successful resolution and consult with end-users concerning corrective actions as needed
- Assess and evaluate priorities and resources to meet customer requirements as they relate to supporting applications from the Project Design Team.
- Manage and set project deadlines and work with internal and external teams to ensure they are met.
The Experience, Abilities and Skills Needed
- 4+ years of experience in an agile Software Development Lifecycle
- 4+ years of experience leading technical support for software applications
- 4+ years of experience leading software development projects
- 4+ years of experience capturing business needs in User Stories
- 4+ years of experience creating functional designs
- 2+ years of experience writing SQL to query data
- 2+ years of experience facilitating meetings
The Experience, Abilities and Skills Preferred
- Bachelors Degree preferred
- 4+ years of experience working on programming projects in Unity
- At least 4+ years of experience with AR/VR/XR industry tools and practices
- At least 4+ years of experience with AR/VR/XR runtimes such as OpenXR, Oculus, and SteamVR
- Clear understanding of the core principles of lean/agile.
- Advanced knowledge and discipline of C# programming language (preferred with use in Unity programming)
- Intermediate knowledge and discipline C/C++ programming language
- Intermediate knowledge of low-level input programming
- Ability to work with business users to identify, organize, and prioritize business needs.
- Ability to clearly communicate business needs to development teams in an organized and timely manner using the principles of lean agile software development.
- Ability to write clear concise User Stories.
- Ability to design functional solutions that meet the business needs.
- Ability to stay focused on delivering business value in an environment with rapidly growing business needs.

Pay range for this opportunity is $82,000 - $98,000. This position is eligible for bonus participation.
Minimum pay rates offered will comply with county/city minimums, if higher than range listed. Pay rates are based on a number of factors, including but not limited to local labor market costs, years of relevant experience, education, professional certifications, foreign language fluency, etc.
