The Role

Can you brainstorm big ideas and prove how a prototype could transition into product?  STERIS VHP - Life Sciences is seeking a Mechanical Engineer who has a passion for design, innovation, and product testing. Mechanical Engineers at STERIS VHP are responsible for assisting the new product development process from voice of customer through manufacturing release.  We're looking for a Mechanical Engineer who can design, develop, document, and execute solutions to meet company, team, and group goals in all phases of projects. Using sound engineering principles, you will perform analyses and resolve issues to develop new and innovative solutions for our Customers.

What You Will Do

  • Work hands-on with VHP equipment to understand and improve the system hardware.
  • Work hands on to assemble VHP Special Sales Order equipment and accessories.
  • Ability to use basic hand tools is required.
  • Execute engineering activities, including project initiation, coordination, synchronization, and review.
  • Prepares documentation and mechanical/electrical designs for technical reviews.
  • Prepares design sketches and assists with developing design layouts, 3D models and drawings for components, sub-assemblies, processes, or equipment in support of projects.
  • Lead design follow up, analysis, problem solving, verification, and reporting.
  • Interacts with vendors, suppliers, and consultants, on a limited basis, to assure compliance with requirements and specifications.
  • Performs routine engineering investigations involving calculations and/or tests in support of current products, new designs, methods, materials, or process studies.
  • Works effectively with other in a cross-functional team environment.
  • Supports a high-performance culture built on trust, respect, community, and a continuous improvement spirit.
  • Works under general supervision with few direct instructions.  Carries out routine and semi-routine tasks independently.
  • Organizes and leads technical reviews working within the project constraints of schedule, cost, performance, quality, and reliability objectives.
  • May lead technical staff (Technicians, Designers) on projects.
  • May serve as a contact point for outside vendors.
  • May travel up to 10% domestically or internationally.

Education Degree

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering

What You Need To Be Successful

  • Prefer 2-5 years of experience in engineering with progressively more responsibility required.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred but will also consider BA in Engineering Technology
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office with ability to write clear protocols, reports, and correspondence.
  • Must have demonstrated excellent knowledge of engineering and manufacturing systems to include some working knowledge in: electronic, thermodynamics, computation fluid dynamics, finite element analysis, etc.
  • Must be able to negotiate well with other functions and organizations.
  • Must have demonstrated problem solving, motivational, and negotiating skills. #LI-KS1
