The Associate Scientist I will manage multiple studies at different stages while performing efficacy testing in a clean room environment and detailed cosmetic evaluations of Medical Devices during Material Compatibility testing for multiple testing modalities. Much of the Associate Scientist I time will be spent in the labs conducting testing with the rest of the time spent on paperwork/training.
What You'll do as an Associate Scientist:
- Carries out assigned projects, laboratory work, and data analysis under the direction of a supervisor.
- Operates and maintains laboratory equipment.
- Works under supervision with direct instructions.
- Carries out routine and semi-routine tasks independently.
- Understands and complies with accepted laboratory and safety procedures.
- Demonstrates good laboratory technique.
- Demonstrates good problem solving/organizational skills
- Demonstrates solid proficiency of the following:
- Microbiology techniques
- Aseptic techniques
- Use and interpretation of test controls in experiments.
- Work with different sterilization technologies (VHP, liquid chemical, high level disinfection)
- Inoculation and recovery of test articles
- Operation of laboratory equipment used in testing.
- Handling of BSL-1 and BSL-2 organisms
What You'll do as an Associate Scientist:
- Responsible for maintenance of microbiology equipment (BSCs, incubators, etc.).
- Demonstrates basic understanding of the following:
- Sterility assurance
- D-values
- Bacterial spores
- Sterilization technologies
- Spectrophotometry
- Maintains spore stocks (population and purity evaluations, places new samples into culture collection).
- Demonstrates proficiency in the following:
- ½ Cycle testing in various sterilization technologies
- Critical parameters testing
- Simulated use testing
- Preparation of some microbiological media.
- Basic understanding of microbiological techniques and use of applicable equipment.
- Helps meeting laboratory quality, housekeeping, and regulatory compliance.
- Perform efficacy testing in a clean room environment.
- Perform detailed cosmetic evaluations of Medical Devices during Material Compatibility testing.
- Manage multiple studies at different stages.
The Experience, Abilities and Skills Needed:
- Bachelor degree in Biology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or Chemistry is preferred.
- Requires 0-3 years of related laboratory experience
- Demonstrated experience working successfully in a team environment.
- Maintains a level of technical knowledge consistent with current scientific literature and best practices.
- Complies with established protocols and within regulatory and laboratory requirements.
- Understands and complies with accepted laboratory and safety procedures.
- Independently operate various standard instruments and perform basic maintenance according to established methods.
- Demonstrates good writing skills for the following:
- WIs and their revisions
- Test plans/protocols
- Laboratory reports
- OOS reports
- Maintains a laboratory notebook and documents laboratory data accurately and timely
- Demonstrates oral communication skills:
- Reporting of laboratory results to supervisor are accurate
- Give presentations to group
- Perform all work in a safe and environmentally conscious manner
More Experience, Abilities and Skills Needed:
- Possess basic laboratory skills related to job field
- Skilled in the use of basic microbiology and/or chemistry laboratory equipment.
- Ability to read and follow protocols/WI's/methods.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint
- Good communication (technical writing, written and verbal) and problem solving skills.
- Team player
- Ability to work in a methodical and organized fashion within established timelines.

Pay range for this opportunity is $50,250.00 - $70,350.00.
Minimum pay rates offered will comply with county/city minimums, if higher than range listed. Pay rates are based on a number of factors, including but not limited to local labor market costs, years of relevant experience, education, professional certifications, foreign language fluency, etc.
