Position Summary

The Advanced Technology Organization is a highly visible, strongly supported initiative within STERIS. The Senior Program Manager will direct all phases of advanced technology program development from inception, development, and completion of an advanced technology project including the design, launch, and post-start up surveillance.  You will organize and lead a cross functional/cross business unit team on highly visible advanced technology programs.  The programs managed by the Sr. Program Manager represent critical strategic imperatives and are global in both scale and scope.  The recommendations of the Sr. Program Manager and Advanced Technology Office have significant long-term impact affecting the financial, employee, and Customer view of the company.

This position can be located in Mentor, Ohio,  Plymouth, MN, Conroe, TX or Montgomery, AL.

•    Assists in the development of the cross-functional strategy/plan and drives execution of the multi-generational roadmap for the advanced technology platform.
•    Ensures the lifecycle management process is followed to ensure all planned business/Customer requirements area satisfied.   Owns the overall program management of the project development to ensure targets are met for performance, features, quality, project costs, reliability, manufacturability, etc.
•    Coordinates the preparation of business plans, specifications, and operating budgets.
•    Establishes milestones and monitors adherence to master plans/schedules, cost analysis, and technical performance.  
•    Directs the work of the assigned cross–functional team members involved in project definition, development, installation, and service.  Facilitates communication and interaction among functional business heads to ensure transparency of critical deliverables and milestones in the development process.
•    Delivers critical, timely communications to the business (GM, VP and Controller) on project development and delivery.
•    Ensures smooth transition across the organization for initial concept through project development, execution, and project launch.
•    Identifies critical dependences, risks, solutions, and contingency plans.  Proactively monitors progress, anticipating the effect of dependencies on schedule, cost, etc.
•    Participates in identifying and implementing improvements and updates to the new project development process, including adding deliverables, tools and/or processes to address functional and project requirements.
•    Provides performance feedback regarding team members to appropriate Functional Managers.

Required Experience

•    Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Advanced Technical Field required with 12 or more years of related experience OR Master’s Degree in above noted field with 7 or more years of related program or project management associated with advanced technology.  Experience in additional disciplines a plus: Development Engineering, Project Marketing, Manufacturing, or Continuous Improvement
•    Advanced degree is desirable.  PMP Certification also desirable.
•    Strong written and verbal communication skills and strong problem-solving skills are required.
•    Exceptional team player with leadership experience.
•    Proven experience leading projects from initial concept, through development and testing, and into manufacturing/service with the ability to balance Customer and Regulatory requirements necessary.
•    Experience successfully managing program through medical and non-medical device project development process (delivering on time and budget).
•    Must demonstrate proficiency in tools and procedures for establishing and tracking metrics including performance, quality level, timeliness, and cost.
•    Demonstrated leadership skills required including conflict resolution, assertiveness, and negotiation skills.
•    Ability to lead and collaborate within a team-based matrixed organization across all business functions, levels, and cultures.  Experience in coordinating with functional departments (Legal, Regulatory, Operations, Procurement, Clinical Affairs, Marketing, and Quality) a plus.
•    Demonstrated ability to make sound data driven business decisions and course correction as needed.
•    Excellent written, oral, and presentation skills required.
•    Sets the standard for timeliness, work ethic, and personal integrity.
•    Advanced computer skills including Microsoft Project a plus.
•    Travel up to 20% (including International).
