Summary

To ensure all staff are appropriately trained and developed.

To plan, prepare, deliver, assess and evaluate training, encompassing all aspects of decontamination and other subjects as necessary, providing ongoing support to help improve site quality performance, compliance and production targets and ensure Health & Safety is adhered to consistently.

Education/Experience

  • Level 2 qualification in decontamination or equivalent.
  • Level 3 qualification in Education and Training or equivalent, or be prepared to work towards and achieve.
  • Must have good standard of written, verbal & numeric ability at level 2 or equivilant
  • Basic I.T. Skills.
  • Previous experience in Sterile Services would be an advantage.
  • Previous experience in pharmaceuticals/health/industry wold be an advantage

Working Conditions

  • There will be a requirement to move heavy weights manually and using trolleys on a regular basis.
  • To be able to maintain concentration where the work pattern is predictable for example, maintaining high standards of accuracy when checking the contents of instrument sets.
  • The role entails frequent exposure to highly unpleasant working conditions in that direct exposure to body fluids is implicit in the Sterile Services Technician role.  Similarly implicit is the handling of chemical cleansing agents (irritant) with the protective equipment supplied and the risk of spillage that these procedures incur.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Conduct practical technical training in all aspects of decontamination in all areas of a site, taking in to account all job roles and all shift patterns relating to work procedures.
  • Have a sound understanding of job specific functions and tasks and the training requirements associated with these functions.
  • Ensure the delivery of basic surgical instrument recognition and inspection for all relevant staff following STERIS guidelines.
  • Adhere to any STERIS Training Schedules implemented for all job roles.
  • Working with the RTM, ensure evaluation after induction training taking into consideration feedback, assessment outcomes, and action required within agreed timescales.
  • Delivering relevant training to support the site and individual requirements.
  • Monitoring and Management of the Training Matrix and ensure that requirements are met in a timely manner and is kept up to date.
  • Ensure the secure filing and maintenance of up-to-date Training Records.
  • Maintenance and regular updating of training records in line with the QMS system requirements
  • Where required, to provide computer based training, including SynergyTrak, as appropriate for specific job roles.
  • To complete Training Reviews and Site Audits to determine procedure compliance and the effectiveness of training delivered.
  • Undertake a training needs analysis where requested.
  • Carry out random checks regularly on trained employees to ensure that QMS procedures are being followed.
  • Monitor and review progress of individual employee and report routinely to RTM and unit management.
  • Where required assist, encourage and mentor employees in completing Apprenticeship and other work-based learning programmes.
  • Act as a first point of contact at site level for the STERIS Career Pathways and present the appropriate options available to management and other employees.
  • Where required, assist employees to complete the management of basic Instrument E-Learning ensuring that all current guidelines are followed consistently.
  • Ensure that any assessment outcomes are achieved, monitored and actioned accordingly.
  • Ensure training is carried out within agreed timescales.
  • Ensure unit specific defects are addressed in liaison with the RTM and General Manager

Duties & Responsibilities Cont'd

  • Organize external training with product manufacturer’s specific to the need of the site with the approval of the RTM.
  • Provide monthly training progress report to General Manager and RTM in a timely manner.
  • Liaise with unit management to resolve specific training needs that have been identified.
  • Motivate learners to attain peak productivity, performance and compliance levels.
  • Monitor and review progress of individual employee and report routinely to RTM and unit management.
  • Where applicable, be flexible to ensure regular visits
  • Maintaining relationships with customers and delivering customer training where requested.
  • Maintaining a safe and healthy training environment by following STERIS and other standards.
  • Work alongside colleagues in all work environments, predominantly ‘shop-floor’, modelling good practice and providing support and guidance.
  • Ensure a safe environment, complying with all relevant legislation, regulations and STERIS policies and procedures.
  • Account for all learner needs and adjust training as necessary to include all learners.
  • Ensure that all learners are treated fairly and with respect and ensure that principles of equality, diversity and inclusion are consistently applied
  • Carry out any other training task as required by RTM, including Health & Safety, HR and other company training as required.
  • Liaise with HR & RTM to coordinate centrally based devised training.
  • Take responsibility for own continuous professional development Maintain technical knowledge by attending technical workshops where relevant and review technical publications and guidance related to decontamination.
  • Become members of the Central Sterilisation Club.
  • Attend local, regional and national meetings and required.
  • Be working towards and achieve a minimum of the Level 3 Education & Training Award and undertake the requirements of the Trainer / Assessor / Verifier Career Pathway as appropriate and agreed.
  • Other reasonable duties as required and agreed with RTM.
  • All training of operational staff to be discussed and planned with the site management to ensure maximum attendance and productivity and to provide feedback to RTM and site management on each training activities.
