Position Summary

Responsible for the activities related to radiation processing and dosimetry across all STERIS radiation operating facilities, including calibrations, generation of test methods, audits, scheduling, validations, routine communication with internal Customers, and reporting as directed by the Senior Scientist and/or Principal Scientist. 

  1. Contributes to maintaining dosimetry systems for radiation sterilization processes in the medical device or pharmaceutical industry that comply to FDA regulations, ISO 9000, AAMI and ASTM standards. 
  2. Contributes to successful product processing by performing dosimeter calibrations.   
  3. Monitors dosimeter readout process by analyzing data and supports exercises in which routine use dosimeters are irradiated alongside reference/transfer dosimeters to determine environmental offsets. 
  4. Works with internal Customers to improve efficiency related to dosimeter calibration and intercomparison process, issues relating to dosimeter equipment. 
  5. Responsible for creating and approving critical dosimetry equations in the Operations Data Management System for all STERIS facilities. 
  6. Contributes to safe and accurate processing by notifying the Manager of any event, item or documentation that may have a concern in regard to regulatory or specification compliance, Customer product quality, or employee safety. 
  7. Ensures dosimetry equipment at all plants is operating within specifications and leads resolution and investigation into any issues related to dosimetry equipment. 
  8. Tracks facility wide dosimeter inventory and send monthly report to STERIS accounting, and make dosimeter purchasing recommendations.  Maintains and distributes dosimeters to facilities based on usage forecasts

9. Assists in validation of all software owned and operated by Radiation Technology.

10. Assists in statistical analysis of data that include, but are not limited to, variation analysis and Dosimetry System uncertainty assessment.

11. Exhibits a commitment to the AST shared values of Customer Satisfaction and Continuous Improvement through ensuring defect-free workmanship, assisting others to meet the Customer’s needs, searching for efficient and effective ways to reduce waste, being active and accountable for Customer satisfaction, and satisfying the Customer’s needs with a sense of urgency.

12. Contributes in a team effort by performing according to the guidelines outlined in the STERIS Code of Business Conduct, the GMP, Lean principles and other directives; supports the directives and decisions of higher level management and performs other duties as assigned.

Bachelor's Degree
Required Experience
  1. A minimum of 3-5 years of general or operational experience in sterilization operations. 
  2. Ability to demonstrate mathematical and technical competence for problem solving.
  3. Proficient in use of MS Excel, MS Word, MS PowerPoint.
  4. Able to complete complex statistical and data analysis using statistical tools such as MS Excel.
  5. Basic knowledge of Quality Systems and working in a regulated environment. 
  6. Basic knowledge of Good Documentation Practices (GDP)
