Position Summary

Responsible for the activities related to radiation processing and dosimetry across all STERIS radiation operating facilities, including calibrations, maintaining dosimeters and dosimetry equipment, measurement of dosimeters for report generation, coordinating with external laboratories for equipment calibrations, and other Radiation Technical routine tasks  as directed by the Senior Scientist and/or Principal Scientist.

Duties

  1. Supports the conduct of scientific studies for investigation and validation purposes.
  1. Contributes to maintaining dosimetry systems for radiation sterilization processes in the medical device or pharmaceutical industry that comply to FDA regulations, ISO 9000, AAMI and ASTM standards.
  2. Contributes to successful product processing by performing dosimeter calibrations
  1. Monitors dosimeter readout process by analyzing data and supports exercises in which routine use dosimeters are irradiated alongside reference/transfer dosimeters to determine environmental offsets.
  2. Responsible for creating  critical dosimetry equations in the Operations Data Management System for STERIS facilities.
  3. Contributes to safe and accurate processing by notifying the Scientist II, Senior Scientist or Principal Scientist of any event, item or documentation that may have a concern in regard to regulatory or specification compliance, Customer product quality, or employee safety.
  4. Ensures STERIS dosimetry equipment at all plants is operating within specifications and leads resolution and investigation into any issues related to dosimetry equipment.

8. Ensures all internal equipment is calibrated per procedure requirements and coordinates calibrations with external vendors. 

9. Tracks facility wide dosimeter inventory and send monthly report to STERIS accounting.

10. Maintains and distributes dosimeters to facilities based on usage forecasts.

11, Maintains a safe work environment by attending safety meetings with local plants, completing safety rounds of the Radiation Technology facility, and tracking all hazardous materials as contained in the Material Safety Data Sheets.

12. Assists in statistical analysis of data that include, but are not limited to, variation analysis and Dosimetry System uncertainty assessment.

Education Degree

Bachelor's Degree in Science

Required Experience

  1. Scientist I will be entry-level personnel with a B.S. degree in a technical discipline that will strive for mastery of all above-listed essential job functions.
  2. Ability to demonstrate mathematical and technical competence for problem solving.
  3. Proficient in use of MS Excel, MS Word, MS PowerPoint.
  4. Able to complete statistical and data analysis using statistical tools such as MS Excel.
  5. Academic knowledge of Quality Systems and working in a regulated environment. 
  6. Academic knowledge of Good Documentation Practices (GDP)
