Position Summary

Responsible for conceptual system development, project management, contractor selection / supervision, and final results of complex controls engineering projects designed to improve operational performance, reduce cost, enhance safety, or establish compliance.  Provides guidance, support and direction to other engineering disciplines, facility maintenance / operations and serves as technical expert for multiple controls engineering projects.

Duties

  1. Support the Manager, Engineering in all controls engineering activities, including, but not limited to: software and hardware assessments, project risk documentation, project planning and development and execution of controls engineering projects, installation, commissioning and equipment validation. Be a key support function in the process of QA equipment validation. 
  2. Develops project objectives, scope, schedules, and costs by analyzing controls engineering project requirements by collaborating with Engineering, Operations, Maintenance and Sales management.  Establishes detailed project plan from pre-design to completion by determining project budget, support staffing, and schedules including contractor and equipment vendors. 
  3. Conceives plans and oversees to conduct process controls equipment evaluations and upgrades.
  4. Evaluates, tests, and prepares technical analysis and implementation plans for controls equipment improvements; makes recommendations for equipment purposes by researching and testing products and participating in negotiations with management and outside vendors.  
  5. Develops and implements process controls which ensure consistent equipment and process performance. 
  6. Assists with the coordination or directs controls engineering projects through resolution of operational problems implementing and overseeing testing, validation, reviewing design and safety issues, and overseeing contracted resources.  
  7. Troubleshooting and resolving electrical and PLC Control System issues during project implementation, installation and commissioning phases.  Provide technical support and troubleshooting support to the Facilities Maintenance and Operations groups as required.  
  8. 10. Supports project team by completing assigned tasks including determining / monitoring project scope of work and schedules and priority of assignments of all outside contractors, equipment vendors and consultants.

11. Plans, organizes and conducts complex controls engineering projects and /or serves as technical expert or oversees the development of controls engineering projects.

12. Obtains information for the design/development of components, assemblies and other operating equipment through manufacturer’s information, technology, databases, consultants, and contractors.

13. Ensures that all federal, state and local regulations pertaining to, but not limited to, radioactive materials, licensing compliance,  safety, EPA, OSHA, NFPA, FDA, rules and regulations are adhered to. Maintains a working knowledge of regulations.

Education Degree

Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science

Required Experience

  1. Min. of 5 years’ experience in multi-facilities manufacturing Maintenance / Engineering environment.
  2. Advanced knowledge and experience with Allen-Bradley ControlLogix PLC, RSView32/Studio 5000/FactoryTalk View SCADA Software, and FactoryTalk AssetCentre systems
  3. Knowledge of Siemens PLC Controls System and SCADA software
  4. Working knowledge of Wonderware Intouch SCADA software
  5. Advanced Microsoft SQL database and associated application knowledge.
  6. Ability to develop reporting tools with Microsoft SQL and associated applications.
  7. Ability to troubleshoot complex controls system and industrial controls installations
  8. Working knowledge of Variable Frequency Drives (VFD) and encoder position feedback devices
  9. Knowledge of Servo Motor Controls Systems, Robotics and Material Handling Automation
  10. Knowledge of 480 VAC 3 phase and 120 VAC power wiring system/components
  11. Working knowledge of Ethernet protocol and networking techniques.
  12. Software validation knowledge/experience
  13. Technical writing skills for specification generation, RFQ’s, URS’s, FRS’s, IQ/OQ documentation
  14. Material handling automation and robotic knowledge/experience
  15. Analysis, selection, and management of outside programmers, contractors, and consultants
  16. Experience in specification and procurement of electrical/mechanical/pneumatic/hydraulic components.
  17. Experience with on-site field installation and service
  18. Experienced with business travel up to 50%.
