Position Summary

This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing Purchasing Department.

Due to recent acquisitions, we are combining the purchasing functions from three UK sites into our Leicester facility to have a centralized team responsible for circa 4000 product lines. The strategic sourcing specialist role is a newly created position that’s main function will be to identify secondary sources of supply, build strong supplier relationships and drive continuous improvement throughout the supply chain.

The Strategic Sourcing Specialist is responsible for leading the strategic sourcing activities. This will include formulating and executing a complete strategy for the suppliers, and working closely with internal, divisional and group stakeholders.

Day to day you will need to establish a supplier strategy for each supplier and to make and execute a resource/dual source/improvement plan for each of them, where practicable, to enhance profitability, supply chain reliability and performance.

You would also be expected to support with daily work in the purchasing department.

You will possess good organizational, verbal and written skills and proven negotiation skills and experience.

There will also be regular travel to meet suppliers. 

Duties

  1. Evaluating sourcing procedures and presenting improvement strategies to senior management for approval.
  2. Identify areas of risk in the supply chain, effectively prioritise, develop and implement plans to mitigate such risks.
  3. Utilize the Market Intelligence tools / data to identify best Sourcing solutions.
  4. Maintaining strategic sourcing relationships and developing strong partnerships. Implementing supplier contracts where appropriate.
  5. Manage supplier performance by way of recognising both positive and negative achievements and communicate effectively to promote the pursuit of excellence and best practice both internally and externally.
  6. Continuously monitor and benchmark suppliers, analyse pricing trends and utilise cost models to defend against price increases, achieve price decreases and best value/total cost of ownership solutions.
  7. Implementing supplier performance and relationship management to ensure improved and sustained supplier performance.

  1. Participate / lead Supplier Business review meetings and collaborate on opportunities for improvement. Track supplier spend, performance and capabilities.
  2. Identify, plan and implement continuous improvement opportunities within the supply chain.
  3.  
  4. Liaise with key stakeholders to ensure all contractual terms and conditions are approved and corporate risk is minimized. Develop and implement contracts in order to minimise risk.
  5. Identifying potential suppliers, visiting, and auditing existing suppliers, building and maintaining good relationships with them.
  6. Support Strategic Sourcing to open new or develop existing supplier accounts in different regions / countries and with different manufacturers or wholesalers to have access to materials at competitive prices, with attractive shelf life and necessary documentation, in a reliable and responsive manner. Coordinating the setup of new accounts with the Quality Department.
  7. Identify and implement cost saving activities
  8. Work with all business functions (R&D, marketing, operations, quality) to support requirements and operate within established business procedures
  9. Ensuring that the materials/services provided are delivered on time and to the required standards of quality and compliance.
  10. Support Project Managers and R&D in their projects, optimize sourcing solutions including risk mitigation and take part in conference calls and negotiation to ensure closure / win of proposals as needed. Leverage business acumen to analyse and identify potential areas of supply risk.

Education Degree

  • Bachelor's Degree

Required Experience

5-7 years experience in lieu of a degree or degree qualification with 2 years experience.

  1. Procurement and strategic sourcing (2 years minimum)
  2. Supply Chain Management (2 years minimum)
  3. Price/Contract Negotiation (2 year minimum)
  4. Supplier Development/Management (2 year minimum)
  5. Raising Purchase Orders (2 year minimum)
  6. Inventory Management (2 year minimum)
  7. Order scheduling (2 year minimum)

Preferred Experience

  1. MCIPS/CIPS qualification desired
