Position Summary

Distribution Center expert on international product deployment to ensure safe, timely, and cost effective shipping of finished goods globally.  Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction by working with customer service, central planning, trafficking and freight forwarders.  Knowledgeable on all international shipping documentation following DOT, IMDG, and IATA regulations to include proper dangerous goods handling.  Maintain appropriate record keeping and provide effective liaisons with carriers, freight forwarders, and governmental agencies.

Duties

  • Responsible for packaging products and completion of international documentation for international customer shipments and distribution center transfers.
  • Provide and train material handlers on proper packaging and documentation procedures for finished goods shipments.
  • Work with customer service, distribution centers, and freight forwarders on consolidation orders to ensure customer requirements are met.
  • Responsible for staying current with DOT, IMDG, and IATA regulations on domestic and international hazardous shipping procedures.
  • Serve as distribution center expert in UN/DOT regulations, assess impact regarding products, and take action to ensure shipping compliance with these regulations.
  • Maintain proper shipping documentation on international shipments for required length of time.
  • Create and authorize standard international shipping and receiving work instructions.
  • Responsible for liaisons with freight forwarders and trafficking to establish total customer satisfaction.
  • Be the backup for the team lead.
  • Initiate improvement activities related to international shipping, e.g. system enhancements, corrective actions on HAZMAT related info or else. 
  • Able to participate in project improvement initiatives. 
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education Degree

High School Diploma or GED

Required Experience

  • Knowledge of computerized warehouse systems and UN/DOT shipping regulation for domestic and international shipping.
  • Minimum of 5 -7 years experience in domestic and international shipping.  
  • Strong knowledge in dangerous goods handling and international shipping documentation.
  • Demonstrated excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to effectively and tactfully interact with customers and others at all levels of the organization and at outside agencies.  
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities. 

Skills

  • Must be able to work in both a standard office environment and in a distribution warehouse facility.  
  • Providing Proof of Deliveries.
  • Tracking & Tracing of international & domestic shipments.
  • Receiving quotations from Freight Carriers when required.
  • Book shipments with the appropriate carrier and prepare necessary paperwork as it relates to returns(including trade in’s, shipments to charitable organizations and call tag) and vendor drop shipmentsand update Oracle with the correct shipment information;
  • Troubleshooting related to transportation and delivery of goods to or from STERIS or STERIS supplier/vendor facility.
  • Arrange pickups and destruction of hazardous materials upon request.
  • Book truck loads and expedites upon request based on the parameters set in the STERIS Routing Guide.
  • Recordkeeping where required
