Position Summary

This position is responsible for disassembly, testing, trouble shooting,  refurbishing and reassembling of medical equipment mainly but not limited to surgical tables.  The Technician will do this work independently and in teams supporting each other to meet Customer orders and quality standards.  The technician will use a variety of hand tools, while using defined procedures to work in a safe and efficient manner.  The Technician may assist in other production-based positions in the facility including Stainless Steel rework, material handling and paint preparation.


  1. Disassemble, troubleshoot and reassembles medical equipment including surgical tables
  2. Daily work is performed independently and within teams and includes repairs to electrical and hydraulic components, refinishing of certain metal and plastic parts, and prep equipment for painting/polish.
  3. Use and understand torque wrenches, test equipment, and troubleshooting techniques. 
  4. Maintain and perform published productivity standards on moderately challenging assemblies by utilizing a work instruction, prints, and standard work.
  5. Maintain and perform work to meet the departments published quality standards and overall Customer satisfaction standards.
  6. Maintain safe work areas and perform safe work habits in accordance to all safety regulations, audits, and actively holds self and teammates accountable to safe working conditions including all needed and/or required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  7. Apply and perform to 5S programs and act with a LEAN mindset to work.
  8. Perform to all policies, procedures and STERIS values as trained and communicated.  
  9. Teamwork-Balances team and individual responsibilities; Exhibits objectivity and openness to other’s views; Gives and welcomes feedback; Contributes to building appositive team spirit; Puts success of team above own interests; Supports everyone’s efforts to succeed.

Education Degree

High School Diploma or GED

Required Experience

  1. Minimum one year work experience; 6 months in working with mechanical and/or hydraulics diagnosis and repair, and experience working in a quality and Customer focused environment.
  2. Demonstrated attention to detail, focus on quality of work, right the first time through specific quality systems
  3. Must be able to read and write details about each repair including basic organizational and troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.  
  4. Proven ability to take direction, to listen, learn, and work in a team environment. Ability to effectively communicate with teammates and leadership.
  5. Understanding of and willingness to adhere to STERIS Values and support our Mission and Vision. 
  6. Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment, where employees pitch in together and lend a helping plan on whatever is needed.
  7. Willing to work overtime and weekends, flexible shifts as needed.
