Position Summary

Provides leadership and oversight to Equipment Repair Technicians in support of meeting Customers’ needs, safety objectives and continuous improvement. Responsible for supporting daily production activities, coordinating the production plan to maintain flow, ensures that products are produced and delivered in accordance with Customer requirements, while complying with applicable company, and regulatory standards.

 

This position train and coaches Equipment Repair Technicians in alignment with the company's Vision and Values and in compliance to standard work and 5S principles. Works side by side with the team in refurbishment of medical products. Performs all tasks of the Technician as needed to serve our Customer, including troubleshooting and corrective maintenance advice related to controls, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, pneumatic piping and electronics issues. Demonstrates expert level skills in complex troubleshooting and repairs for competitive equipment. Maintains and continuously builds expert level knowledge in existing and new products and services to support Customers and upskill team members. 

Duties

  • Responds to production needs and requests with a sense of urgency and aligns activities, focusing on the needs and requirements of the Customer.
  • Promotes quality conscious leadership through proper adherence to quality system procedures. Responds immediately to abnormalities through identifying, documenting, and segregating nonconforming material.  
  • Provides creative solutions to issues or problems by utilizing the problem-solving process and escalates when additional support is needed to identify root cause and implement effective countermeasures. Challenges current state, seeking opportunities to make incremental improvements daily and identifying solutions to remove waste from production activities.
  • Works side by side with the team in refurbishment across STERIS broad portfolio equipment and medical products. Will perform all tasks of the Equipment Repair Technician as needed to serve our Customer, including troubleshooting and repairs. Demonstrates expert level skills in complex troubleshooting and repairs for equipment. 
  • Facilitates a safety culture by performing safety audits to ensure proper use and condition of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), machines, and safeguards, training of individuals on procedures and expectations, and participating in investigations of near misses / incidents.
  • Recognizes performance of team members on a regular and frequent basis and provides input to supervisor for performance management and conflict resolution process for employees.
  • Coordinates attainment of daily/weekly production plan through allocation of personnel to work assignments, ensuring required material is available, coordinating/prioritizing required support services and leading start-ups/changeovers for the cell.
  • Maintains flow and efficiency of the cell by providing coverage during team member absences.
  • Continuously builds knowledge level of existing and new products to train the Technicians; facilitates sharing of knowledge and best practices among team members.

  • Interfaces with team members in supporting departments (Quality, Regulatory, Service Engineering, Field Service, etc.)
  • Develop new processes including standard work.
  • Achieves Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost (SQDC) objectives through; training to, auditing of, and improvement to standard work and implementing daily kaizen activities.
  • Tracks and communicates performance metrics and escalates needs by updating, presenting and publishing at SQDC board meetings with management team and daily standard reports (daily production, material requirements, etc.).
  • Competency with PC hardware, software applications and configurations. Interpret and understand product computer operational systems, fault codes and how codes relate to potential functional or application anomalies.
  • Reads and interprets equipment, electrical, electronic and mechanical drawings, diagrams, cycle graphs and flowcharts.
  • Monitors process flow; identifying solutions for flow interrupters and responding visual management of the production area ex. Andon signals as necessary and takes appropriate action.
  • Demonstrates stewardship commitment through executing, auditing and driving continuous improvement of 5S in work cell according to STERIS standards. Serves as a resource to other team members on basic lean principles and tools. Provides daily coaching of team members on job duties and in understanding the "why" behind Lean principles and tools.
  • Monitors operational status on all equipment/tools including calibration and certification and takes appropriate action.
  • Champions idea generation system through providing support to team members in generating and implementing ideas, updates idea generation board and presents weekly best ideas implemented to facility management.
  • Interact with Customers on market release installations as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education Degree

High School Diploma or GED

Required Experience

  • 5-7 years of technical repair experience, including a minimum of 3 years' experience in medical equipment repair required. Experience of medical equipment repair includes repairing sterilizers, low temp equipment, washers, warming cabinets, scrub sinks, lights, and/or tables.
  • One (1) year of leadership experience preferred. Could include involvement in projects or daily work activities.
  • Two (2) years of experience working in a lean environment, preferred.

  • Demonstrated high level of performance, professionalism, confidentiality and integrity.
  • Willingness to work overtime as required.
  • Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Hands on experience in an MRP system preferred.
