Position Summary

 

Responsible for the strategic and tactical leadership of STERIS’s primary distribution center for service parts. The leader will oversee distribution activities, import/export compliance, hazardous materials, and transportation, ensuring top tier quality, performance, and cost optimizations. Lead and manage initiatives to consistently improve service levels, reducing costs through innovation, and maintaining highest possible safety environment. Communicate performance, resolve issues, and seek VOC with senior BU leadership. 

What you will do

 

  • Responsible for the receipt, management, and shipment of service parts to customers, distributors, and satellite warehouses globally. Develop, lead, and implement the distribution and transportation strategy that have regional/global span, ensuring cross functional interactions and connectivity with business units, supply chain, and Customer facing teams. 
  • Direct operational responsibilities for all activity within the distribution center. Manage the policy deployment of Lean techniques, quality, cost reductions, complete and on-time delivery, safety, customer satisfaction, employee relations, visual controls, and performance measurements.
  • In line with ISO/FDA controls, supervises the required record-keeping and data management systems. Provides input for warehouse designs and logistics
  • Lead a positive work environment by promoting established safety practices and enforcing these practices. Review monthly operational reports and heads the site’s Central Safety Committee.
  • Responsible for the proper operation of equipment, including the training and instruction on equipment use and the requisitioning of needed equipment, material, and maintenance. Ensures all equipment is maintained in their proper working condition. 
  • Completes Capital Appropriation Requests as required, supporting the location's operating requirements.
  • Service as the department’s leader with the Environmental, Health and Safety, and other internal and external agencies/groups. Leads and acts as a change agent corporate security measures for the facility, products, and human resources. Participate with regional/global warehouse footprint studies to ensure optimized design and capabilities.
  • Promotes good relations and effective management with Senior Leaders and employees, focusing on productivity, attendance, and general order required for the efficient operation of the Distribution Centers. 
  • Owns and is accountable for departmental budgets, expenditures, and site management. Presents monthly operating performance metrics, semi-annual Management Review Board reports, and other operational summaries in coordination with distribution senior management.
  • Ensure appropriate levels of supply are shipped to each warehouse point, optimizing shipping costs, minimizing days on hand, and maximizing Customer service levels. Coordinates inventory cycle count activities. Prepare annual department and logistical (freight) budgets & operating objectives, scheduling expenditures, analyzing variances, and initiating corrective actions.
  • Leads cross functional groups to ensure traffic activities between warehouse points and the customers are coordinated and optimally managed.
  • Ensures as needed 24/7 coverage for the handling of emergency Customer orders.
  • Monitor key performance measures applicable to S&OP execution and execute action plans with distribution senior management. Identify, secure approvals for, and direct the implementation of capital improvement projects
     

What you will need to be successful

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree (Business or Operations/Supply Chain related discipline)
  • Minimum ten 10+ years’ experience in warehousing, domestic and global transportation, shipping/receiving or other operations/supply chain function.
  • Leading teams of 50+, inventory control, standard work development, P&L ownership.
  • 10+ years supervisory or management experience. 
  • Ability to develop business strategies and create buy in with all levels of the organization in a clear, efficient, and effective manner. 
  • 3+ years Lean Experience.
  • Experience working in a regulated industry
  • Handling, storing, and shipping hazardous materials
  • Experience working in union environment
  • Project management experience
