Position Summary

Zero Hours - Driver/Operator

To assist with the logistics in providing effective transport undertaking driving duties

To provide a high-quality service for the decontamination, inspection, assembly and packing of sterile equipment for hospital and community settings.

To take a flexible approach to work within the Instrument Management Services department.


  • Shall ensure vehicles are driven in line with all current applicable legislation, company policies and procedures.
  • Shall ensure daily Health and Safety vehicle inspections are carried out to ensure the vehicle is in a road worthy condition and replenish with fuel, oil, air and water as necessary, including the completion of appropriate records. To check brake fluid and anti-freeze monthly and to log and report any defects and accidents to the line Manager. 
  • Maintain and organise planned preventative maintenance i.e. servicing of all company vehicles and organise alternative vehicle cover when necessary.
  • Undertake weekly inspection of vehicles for damage and cleanliness inside and out.
  • Maintain effective vehicle mileage logs and submit the mileage records to the Administration Staff on a weekly basis.
  • Shall ensure all drivers undertake a vehicle assessment to enable them to drive the company vehicles and tailgate vehicles.

To ensure the effective preparation of sterile consumables (dressings, linen, instruments and equipment) by the process of decontamination, inspection assembly and packing within predefined quality standards.

To rigorously check, wash, lay-up and pack sets of theatre instruments to meet contract specifications within predefined quality standards.

To safely operate and monitor machines and equipment (washer / disinfectors, ultrasonic and sterilisers) effectively.

To ensure that repairs and missing instruments or equipment are recorded and logged on the Tracking and Traceability computer system (SynergyTrak).

To ensure that repaired instruments or equipment are returned to stock or the appropriate coded sets or the Trust’s appointed person.




Have demonstrable verbal and numerical abilities, measured by the successful completion of an online assessment.
