Position Summary

The Ultrasound Engineer position works in an R&D capacity to support and facilitate the design and development of ultrasonic transducers utilized in medical devices.  S/he participates in the development of capabilities for servicing ultrasonic transducers including the 3D xMATRIX transducer and similar technologies. The ultrasound engineers’ responsibilities range from advanced concept development, component development, and sustaining engineering activities of our ultrasound device category, as well as advancing transducer service capabilities for multiple device families across our ultrasound device category.

What You Will Do

•    The Ultrasound Engineer designs and integrates elements, electrodes, and electronic circuits within state-of-the-art ultrasound imaging transducers including analog and digital designs.  
•    Participates as a technical contributor in dynamic cross discipline transducer product development teams, including ASIC design, System Signal Path, Transducer design, and Supply Chain teams.  
•    The Ultrasound Engineer will be engaged in the various stages of development and parts fabrication working with specialized vendors to tackle different transducer configurations, integration with optical and electronic subassemblies and adaptability to proper anatomical sites. 
•    Participates in testing, data gathering and analysis, validation of performance of components, subassemblies, and acoustical systems. 
•    Collaborates in generating and providing supporting documentation of designs, failure analysis, bills of materials, test and inspection procedures and reports, QA/QC/RA requirements, data, and other related intellectual property activity.

•    Supports the transition of validated models into in reverse engineering and/or manufacturing phase and will assist in the procurement of all the parts and services needed to complete the different assigned tasks. 
•    Participates in research that tests and analyzes the fit, form, and function of new components and the feasibility, design, operation and performance of existing equipment, components, systems, and processes. 
•    Creates solid models and engineering drawings with a focus on manufacturability. 
•    Participates in the development, sourcing, and evaluation of prototype designs, design tooling, jigs, and fixtures.  
•    Specifies system components that conform to engineering design and performance specifications.

Education Degree

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering

What Will Help You Be Successful

•    Bachelor's degree (BS) in Engineering from an accredited four-year college or university; and minimum three (3) to five (5) years of experience and training.  
•    Minimum of one (1) to two (2) years’ experience with analog mixed signal circuit design.
•    Experience in interfacing sensors to microelectronics.  
•    Mixed signal ASIC design/Test Development experience.  
•    Analytical skills with ability to anticipate and resolve technical issues.  
•    Working with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.  Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.


Preferred Experience

•    Experience with ultrasound imaging preferred.  
•    Medical Device development experience preferred.  
•    Computer Skills - Must be proficient with all Microsoft Office applications; previous experience with Oracle preferred.
•    FPGA programming experience desired. 
•    Software programming experience desired. 


  • Working knowledge of parametric modeling (SolidWorks strongly preferred). 
  • Aptitude for hands-on tasks and broad understanding of manufacturing techniques of ultrasonic transducers.  
  • Ability to prepare and present complex engineering designs to other engineering disciplines, projects teams, and customers.
