Position Summary

Performs engineering assignments with a focus on complete mechanical systems across instrument families. Provides leadership to existing engineering teams and delegates to others on project-wide tasks. 

Performs various engineering assignments with a focus on complete mechanical systems and processes.  


  1. Delegates project-wide tasks within the mechanical engineering department and follows up on progress.
  2. Designs mechanical parts and processes for use in new product development and the repair of surgical devices.
  3. Measures and documents mechanical parts considering complete families of instruments.
  4. Conducts research that tests and analyzes the fit, form, and function of new components and the feasibility, design, operation and performance of existing equipment, components, systems and processes.
  5. Creates solid models and engineering drawings with a focus on manufacturability.
  6. Develops, sources and evaluates prototype designs; design tooling, jigs and fixtures.

  1. Conducts failure analysis, identify critical components and develop Bill of Materials.
  2. Specifies system components that conform to engineering design and performance specifications.
  3. Conducts technical presentations to medical professionals and IMS employees.
  4. Coordinates with purchasing and the production floor to find suppliers and vendors.
  5. Creates part numbers for components and assemblies for purchasing, inventory control, and factory use.
  6. Projects planning and scheduling; reports progress to department manager.

Education Degree

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering

Required Experience

  • Must have 5+ years of experience with the following in a regulated industry:
    1. Materials engineering, metallography, and working with polymers, and plastics. Must have the ability to build prototypes as well as reverse engineer mechanical parts.
    2. GDNT experience.
    3. Machining processes and techniques, ability to solder and handle small delicate parts is essential.
    1. Parametric modeling.
    2. Understanding of complex mechanical systems and interaction with overall electrical sub-systems
    3. Production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
    4. Translating voice of customer input into specific design requirements
    5. Design control methods, including verification/validation testing techniques.

Preferred Experience


  • Expert in parametric modeling (SolidWorks strongly preferred). 
  • Mechanical design experience (medical device industry strongly preferred). 
  • Schematic capture, PCB layout and CIS/DE-HDL, library tools. 
  • Simulation experience


  • Ability to lead team towards the completion of goals and get work done through others.  
  • Excellent communication skills.  
  • Ability to manage track projects and ensure they meet the requirements and timelines.  
  • Ability to build cross-functional relationships across Device Repair.  
  • Has a strong presence and collaborates effectively. 
  • Computer Skills - Must be proficient with all Microsoft Office applications;
