Continuous Improvement Technician I

Position Summary

Responsible for driving changes and improvements through the implementation of the STERIS Business System (SBS) in support of lean transformation and sustainment throughout the facility. Delivers practical, hands-on training in SBS methodology and tools to eliminate waste in manufacturing and support functional areas. 


  1. Leads and drives lean transformation and change initiatives to create and sustain a world-class visual manufacturing operations site for instantaneous recognition of waste in all areas.
  2. Implements STERIS/IMS Business System (based on Toyota Production System - TPS) continuous improvement activities in all major lean disciplines and in alignment with strategic initiatives and objectives.
  3. Facilitates and/or conducts lean training programs, Kaizen events, and other lean initiatives. Assesses, coaches, and provides constructive feedback to teams to strengthen lean competencies at the site.
  4. Serves as a change facilitator, develops and collaborates with site lean champions, and influences site leadership in the transformation to and/or in support of a continuous improvement culture.
  5. Develops and manages multiple processes to ensure sustainable lean-related visual management is in place.
  6. Tracks and ensures completion of projects and related action plans.
  7. Monitors existing and new manufacturing processes for improvement opportunities in safety, quality, delivery, and cost through lean problem-solving methodology.
  8. Tracks, measures, and reports progress on improvements using standard, established Key Performance Indicators.
  9. Maintains professional and technical knowledge through world class lean manufacturing benchmarking.
  10. Participates and contributes in the site Lean Steering Committee as requested and follows through with action and direction from the committee.
  11. Oversees SQDC, 5S, Hr x Hr boards for compliance to standards. Initiates, maintains and shares site developed “best practices”.

Education Degree

  • High School Diploma or GED

Required Experience

  1. Associates Degree preferred;
  2. Lean manufacturing (related) training strongly preferred, preferably from Shingijutsu or nationally recognized certification body (SME/AME/ASQ/Shingo). 
  3. Two years of demonstrated qualified lean production experience in a support role preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience; 3 years is strongly preferred.
  4. Proficiency with personal computer applications, working experience with Micro Soft applications: Excel, Word, Visio, MS Project and Power Point.
