Position Summary

This role will involve working in a fast-paced environment, where quality and precision is vital.  Full training and support are provided in a programme to help staff to reach their full potential, learning a wide range of hospital instruments and working in different functional areas of the sterilisation process. Responsible for providing a high-quality service for the cleaning, inspection, assembly and packing of sterile equipment for hospital and community settings.  

Duties

To effectively and efficiently oversee the preparation of the sterile consumables (instruments and equipment) by the process of cleaning, inspection, assembly and packing within predefined quality standards 

To oversee and rigorously check, wash, lay-up and pack sets of theatre instruments to meet contract specifications within predefined quality standards. 

To safely operate and monitor machines and equipment (driers, washers, sterilisers) effectively and efficiently. 

To oversee that repairs and missing instruments or equipment are recorded and logged on the Tracking and Traceability computer system. 

To oversee that repaired instruments or equipment are returned to stock or the appropriate coded sets. 

To ensure that instruments not recorded on the computer system and supplementary instruments not identified by hospital are correctly tagged and labelled and logged into the system. 

To proactively monitor evaluate and ensure that operational activities fully comply with required Health and Safety procedures and guidelines. 

To ensure that all designated staff are kept informed and trained on individual and team health and safety procedures in the workplace. 

To ensure that designated staff are aware of fire safety procedures and to act as designated area Fire Officer.

To participate as an integral member of the sterile processing team and to actively contribute to suggestions on innovation, continuous improvement and best practice. 

To monitor and ensure that all production processed by designated team conforms to Synergy Healthcare Sterilisation Services quality guidelines and ensuring complete contamination control. 

To effectively control the use of materials, equipment and consumables within the team wok location, reporting re-occurring faults and informing the Supervisor/Production Manager of any other requirements. 

To actively assist and support the Supervisor/Production Manager in the planning and operational process. 

To monitor absence levels, maintaining accurate records and liaising with team members  

To support and guide team members in line with the principles of Performance Management, setting and reviewing goals, acting as a mentor to the team and identifying training and development needs. 

To undertake any other duties or tasks as reasonably required. 

Education/Experience

Essential 

Educated to GCSE level standard/NVQ Level 3 or equivalent 

Previous supervisory experience. 

 

Desirable 

Substantial previous experience in Sterile Services and/or health-related products.
