Position Summary

The purpose of the role is to drive Key Performance Indicators across all areas of the Engineering function to ensure that all projects are delivered on cost and on time to the highest quality standards. Ensure Health, Safety and Environmental issues are prioritised and facilitate, direct and drive implementation of Lean Business strategy and drive Continuous Improvement across all engineering related areas of the business.

The position of Head of Engineering  is responsible for all areas of the IMS  Engineering function and quality of service delivery, striving for best in class products and business practices to deliver to the business expectations, managing teams and projects across the business.    Establish and drive the IMS UK engineering and maintenance strategy in line with STERIS targets and programs ensuring full compliance with UK regulations subject to environmental, occupational and safety. 
The Head of Engineer will strive to provide a high quality maintenance service to support the cleaning and inspection, assembly and packing of sterile equipment to hospital and community settings and is responsible for managing critical supplier commercial relationships and contracts.

This is a national role which will require the successful candidate to travel across the UK to visit sites.

 

Duties

Whilst having over responsibility all for Engineering activities the the business the duties of the role include:


1.    To ensure that all plant and machines are maintained and repaired to enable the provision of the service 
2.    To ensure compliance of sterilisers/washers in accordance with CFPP, HTM standards
3.    Working with the projects to include refurbishments and new builds when required.  
4.    To ensure all machinery is serviced before the commencement of quarterly and annual validation
5.    Provide leadership and direction in the event of any major incidents that have an engineering dimension to the cause and/or resolution, to the extent of taking control should the impact be of a serious nature, including reporting to the senior H&S leaders within the business.
6.    To facilitate the scheduling of yearly validation of plant equipment
7.    To ensure that all machinery and equipment meets the requirements of the Medical Devices Directive
8.    To maintain all validation/calibration certification required for MDD registration.
9.    Manage UK engineering team including; daily management, personal development reviews, recruitment, disciplinaries etc.
10.    Monitor, measure and report on training, performance and development of regional engineers as part of the Synergy Health Performance Management Policy in conjunction with the HR team
11.    Liaise, oversee and manage all third party suppliers and contractors for all equipment and systems to ensure HSS facilities achieve optimal efficiency and adhere to safety regulations
12.    Manage all equipment maintenance requirements for multiple site operations, including all on-site plant equipment where applicable
13.    To achieve budgetary targets and assist with the preparation of annual budgets, including reviews of all contract terms and agreements, maintenance purchases, conditions and costs
14.    To implement and maintain a system of maintenance to ensure maximum safety of operations, plant and equipment, controlling expenditure and costs, while achieving operational efficiency
15.    Ensure that existing contracts with all external suppliers continue to be successfully delivered

16.    The management of all PPM work within the consigned and allocated areas of responsibility and to provide monitors and checks to keep up to date with PPM programmes supporting the quality management system.
17.    Monitor work carried out and make sure it is completed to the highest standards and within regulations – including both scheduled and unannounced audits 
18.    Design a programme to support urgent remedial works including out of hours demands
19.    To scope all backlog, lifecycle, refurbishments or replacements requirements whilst ensuring efficiency of operations at HSS facilities
20.    Keep up to date with technological advances and utilise these where necessary
21.    Maintain service documentation, contract files and equipment failure documentation ensuring everything is kept up to date.
22.    Carry out audits/checks on service engineer works, for both internal Synergy Health and external engineers
23.    Escalate matters as required to ensure that they are handled appropriately, whilst protecting the company's interests at all times
24.    To participate on an on call rota
25.    To undertake any other duties or tasks as reasonably required.
26.    There may be a requirement to travel to other sites and locations within the Group.
 

Required Experience

  • Demonstrable experience of leading an engineering function with a proven
  • track record in strategic engineering leadership delivering effective
  • engineering strategies, policies, processes and systems
  • Ability to add value, reduce costs and make business improvements
  • Proven project management and supplier experience Experience of operating and influencing at a strategic level
  • Knowledge and technical understanding of automotive processes,
  • components and design techniques
  • Must hold a clean up to date full driving licence.
  • Previous experience of working within and adhering to quality standards.
