Position Summary

The Engineering Technician is a technical role that supports R&D design and Insourcing initiatives. The primary focus of this role will be supporting the integration into manufacturing for the chemical manufacturing processes, packaging component design, general manufacturing processes, and  designing of packaging processes of New Product Development and insourcing projects. The Engineering Technician must have a strong foundation of working knowledge of mechanical concepts. 

Duties

  • Assist with the design, development, building and qualifying of manufacturing equipment.
  • Use of Autocad for purposes of P&ID’s, conceptual drawings, Line layouts, Component Drawings and other engineering based drawing.
  • Execute tests using test equipment that measures temperature, electricity, light, flow, pressure, strain, force, distance, time, noise, weight etc.
  • Collect and analyze test data/results, document results, outcomes and write reports.  Provide analysis of results to Engineering and R&D teammembers. 
  • Support the design packaging line layouts, Equipment P&ID’s, and packaging Component Data.
  • Analyze equipment failures prior to manufacturing turnover and factory work stoppage problems and provide solutions.
  • Execute technical judgement and decision making.

  • Procure equipment and supplies for labs and engineering hardware.
  • Coordinate with Metrologist effectively to maintain calibrated equipment.
  • Maintains detailed and up to date test data in laboratory note book and active test logs.
  • Support Customer escalations, when needed.
  • Support manufacturing ramp up, and design transfer during product development.
  • Maintain facility in a safe, clean and orderly manner at all times in compliance with OSHA VPP standards and STERIS SOPs.
  • Coordinate Test with outside laboratories.
  • Assist with DOT Hazmat shipping.
  • Assist with documentation supporting the manufacturing and packaging of new and insourced products.

Required Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree plus 1 year of hands-on mechanical experience. 
    • OR Vocational/Technical Training or Two-year Associate Degree or equivalent, apprenticeship or comparable specialized study in mechanical engineering. PLUS 3 years of hands-on mechanical experience.
    • OR High School Diploma plus 5 years of hands-on mechanical experience in lieu of degree.
  • Must have broad base of knowledge with understanding and skills in the following areas: Mechanical and CAD Design.

Work Schedule

  • This is an onsite position based in St Louis, MO.
  • The schedule is M-F dayshift hours.
