Position Summary:

The Radiation Safety Specialist assists with and supports the Radiation Protection Program implementation for assigned North American facilities, providing guidance and support. This position ensures compliance with internal and regulatory standard requirements. This position is remote based. Ideal candidate will reside in Western United States.  Must have ability to travel up to 50% domestic and international.

What You Will Do:

•    Assists in the implementation of policies and procedures in the Radiation Safety Program to ensure compliance with applicable regulations and to maintain personal exposures As Low As Reasonably Achievable.
•    Coordinates with Corporate Radiation Safety Officer and Facility Radiation Safety Officers to ensure that Radiation Safety Program policies and procedures are effective by providing training and guidance on related issues.
•    Conducts annual Radiation Safety Program audits in accordance with established policies, procedures and regulations and prepares and submits written reports.
•    Assists in effective follow-up for potential hazards or cited violations by ensuring that corrective actions are implemented in accordance with organizational or regulatory standards.
•    Assists in verification that the radiation Safety Program policies and procedures are adhered to by investigating incidents and auditing work practices.
•    Maintains radiation safety related equipment inventory.
•    Develops professional skills, knowledge and abilities by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications and participating in professional societies related to radiation and radiation safety.
•    Under direct guidance, employs the hierarchy of controls to control workplace radiation related hazards. This includes performing hazard assessments, selecting equipment, providing training and monitoring to determine the effectiveness of controls.
•    Assists Facility Radiation Safety Officers with implementation of programs.
•    Communicates in an effective manner by using accepted business practices in a courteous and professional manner and providing timely and accurate responses and service-oriented offers of assistance.
 

What Will Help You Be Successful

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred with a science discipline. Preferably Health Physics, Industrial Hygiene or Safety focus. Will accept minimum of seven (7) years of experience working as a maintenance technician or operator in an irradiator facility at STERIS.
  • Must have ability to travel up to 50% domestic and international. Will eventually taper off to 40% travel on an annual basis.
  • With this role, we are looking for zero to three years of experience of general or operational experience, in addition to the following skills:
  • Ability to work independently under general guidelines and supervision.
  • Requires computer literacy to include word processing, spreadsheet and software capabilities.
  • Effective interpersonal skills as demonstrated through prior experience
  • Strong organizing, analyzing and Level 4 math skills (practical application of fractions, percentages, ratios, proportions, measurements and basic algebra) to determine organizational Customer and regulatory problems and formulate corrective action plans; attention to detail.
  • Ability to adapt to changing duties and responsibilities.
  • Ability to influence people in their opinions, attitude or judgements; to generalize, evaluate and make decisions in stressful situations.

 Pay range for this opportunity is $63,000.00 - $88,200.00.

 

Minimum pay rates offered will comply with county/city minimums, if higher than range listed.  Pay rates are based on a number of factors, including but not limited to local labor market costs, years of relevant experience, education, professional certifications, foreign language fluency, etc.
