Position Summary

Join STERIS as a Production Manager within the Applied Sterilization Technology team. In addition to the many medical devices and consumables that STERIS produces, STERIS is also offers Global contract sterilization and microbial reduction services using a technology-neutral offering of radiation and gas technologies. As a Production Manager you will play a critical role in overseeing, training, managing and scheduling the operators that run the contract sterilization in El Paso, TX.  Additionally, you will ensure that Quality processes are followed, training up to date, coordinate operations and maintenance schedules and handle customer communication when needed.

Leadership is a key aspect of this role, having the ability to manage operators, maintain open lines of communication, and meet Customer processing requirements in a multi-shift environment.

This is a first shift position, however, hours will need to flex based on the needs of the team and the ability to collaborate with and lead both shifts. This is a critical leadership role in the organization that offers long term opportunities within the organization.

What you will do
  • Assist in the administration of current and new business activities by developing plans and strategies to meet Customer requirements and maximize profit; providing current or prospective Customers tours of the facility.
  • Monitor implementation of plans and strategies by collecting, analyzing and preparing reports for review by appropriate company management.    
  • Meet Customer requirements by managing production operations according to established company policy; direct and coordinate all production activities within the plant; ensure quality Customer service by establishing, monitoring and maintaining production schedules; coordinate requirements with Plant Manager, sales, engineering, procurement, shipping/receiving, maintenance, quality functions and technology centers.
  • Establish an organizational structure by assigning responsibilities, delegating authority and selecting, orienting and training direct reports.
  • Lead production staff by coaching, counseling, motivating and disciplining as needed; planning, monitoring and appraising job results; directing and maintaining activities designed to achieve and maintain high employee morale; fostering intra- and inter-department cooperation.
  • Achieve financial objectives by preparing production budget, scheduling expenditures, analyzing variances, compiling and studying costs and initiating corrective actions; requesting assistance from internal financial support as needed.
  • Maintain a safe, clean and secure working environment by establishing and enforcing procedures, rules and regulations; initiate fixed capital requests; monitors all safety and security systems and procedures on a regular basis; support plant safety meetings that evaluate plant machinery, equipment and working conditions; assume the role of back-up Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) as defined in the facility’s radioactive materials license (if applicable).
  • Ensure compliance with Corporate QSRC and GMP procedures by initiating and monitoring related training programs; monitoring production and scheduling activities on a daily basis; maintaining frequent contact with Production, Quality and Maintenance staff.

 

What you need to be successful
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, Management 
  • 8+ years of experience in a manufacturing/production environment with at least 5 years in a supervisory position.
  • In lieu of a degree a minimum of 12 years of experience in a manufacturing/production environment with at least 8 years in a supervisory position.
  • Experience in an ISO and/or GMP related industry highly preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft applications.
  • Experience presenting to groups both verbally and in written communication.
  • Prior experience recommending departmental staffing requirements, hiring and coaching direct reports. 
  • Proven experience managing high performing teams to meet customer requirements.
