Position Summary

 Senior Continuous Improvement Manager - This role is UK home based working across our sites in the UK.

Develop local vision and strategy to drive operational excellence through continuous improvement program initiatives and deployments.

As the location/area subject matter expert, the Sr CI Manager will assess, determine, and utilize lean implementation strategies and experiences to lead the organization through the lean transformation journey.  The Sr CI Manager will collaborate with various stakeholders to plan, organize, and implement an array of established STERIS Continuous Improvement methods, practices, and tools ranging from basic to complex for more efficient and effective operations and processes, including those of a multi-faceted or intricate nature.

The incumbent will lead CI/Lean strategy at designated areas/locations which may include multiple locations or a broader area of responsibility. He/she will be directly involved with the operations/process improvement and work in a collaborative, action-oriented, self-motivated manner to build support for change and transformation while leading, training, developing, motivating, and coaching the team in the development of a lean culture.   


Leads, develops strategy, and drives lean transformation and change initiatives to create and sustain world-class, visually managed facilities for instantaneous recognition of wastes in all areas.

Plans and implements STERIS CI/Lean methods to drive continuous improvement in alignment with strategic goals and objectives and using simple to complex CI/Lean tools and approaches.

Facilitates and/or conducts lean training programs, Kaizen events, and other lean initiatives that may include delivery of training for enterprise wide training programs.  Assesses, coaches, and provides constructive feedback to teams to strengthen lean competencies at the site.

Leads change initiatives and serves as a change facilitator, develops and collaborates with site/area lean champions and/or business leaders, and influences leadership in the transformation to and/or in support of a continuous improvement culture. Works collaboratively with various levels of business leadership to implement and promote adoption of CI/Lean culture and strategies.

Develops and implements multiple strategies to implement lean/continuous improvement techniques and systems throughout the organization, which may include larger and/or multi-site locations or broader areas.

Proactively monitors existing and new processes for improvement opportunities in safety, quality, delivery, and costs through lean problem-solving methodology and takes appropriate follow-up action.

Tracks, measures, and reports progress on improvements using standard, established Key Performance Indicators.

Develops and manages multiple processes, long and short-term, sustainable, lean-related visual action plans as well as assigned key projects.

Develops strategies, establishes, monitors, and ensures business’ effective utilization of lean core CI/lean systems such as: SQDC, 5S, Standard Work, and Leader Standard Work for compliance to standards and effective utilization.

Prepares budgets, schedules, and other financial reports regarding the impact of and sustaining CI/lean improvements, waste reduction, and ROI as indicated by lean accounting principles. Creates input to the Lean Scorecard and maintains its status to be current. Provides input to Capital Equipment Requests relative to CI/Lean projects and may assist with CER development.

Organizes and facilitates site or function CI/lean steering committee and all follow-up activities. Ensures that all local and regional steering committees are supported and operate effectively.

Maintain professional and technical knowledge through benchmarking world-class lean organizations and personal CI/Lean related training.

Assesses, coaches, and provides constructive feedback to teams to strengthen lean competencies at the site, region, or within the function.

Hires, trains, develops, coaches, and provides team member guidance and supervision in the event of having direct report(s).

Provides advice and consultation as a lean/CI subject matter expert on best practices, significant projects, and/or special lean/CI initiatives.

Other assigned duties.

Preferred Education/Experience

Degree or equivalent in mechanical, electrical Engineering, or other related technical fields

Knowledge and proven experience with business best-practice methodologies (Six Sigma, Lean, RCM, etc.). 

Exceptional verbal, written, and presentation skills. 

Ability to coordinate and lead projects.  Strong project management skills; ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously.

Proven ability to work at all levels in an organization and drive change. 

Desirable Skills

Significant experience in Operations analysis, Reliability / Productivity Engineer, or equivalent experience. 

Six Sigma Black belt or Equivalent.

Previous experience in a Service Organisation is desired. 

Advanced computer skills.  Ability to use MS Office, business systems and Project Management Programmes to gather and analyse complex data.    

Demonstrated ability to develop and analyse complicated financial and/or operational data.
