The role of Senior QA Engineer at STERIS is responsible for defining and driving the overall quality strategy, including planning test approaches, designing and executing detailed test cases, and ensuring strong coverage across functional, regression, integration, and non‑functional areas.
The role also includes rigorous defect management—logging clear bugs, prioritising them based on impact, and collaborating with developers to resolve root causes. Beyond hands‑on testing, they act as quality leaders within the organisation. This includes influencing architectural and product decisions and establishing processes and metrics that elevate product reliability.
What is involved
Test Design & Execution
- Design comprehensive test cases, test suites, and test scenarios (functional, regression, integration, end‑to‑end).
- Analyse requirements, technical specifications, and architecture to identify risks and testing needs.
- Execute manual and automated tests across different platforms.
- Identify gaps in test coverage and improve test suite robustness
Automation Leadership
- Develop and maintain automated test frameworks (UI, API, performance).
- Select and integrate appropriate automation tools and technologies.
Quality Ownership Across SDLC
- Engage early in design discussions to advocate for testability and user experience.
- Collaborate with business analysts, developers, DevOps…
- Ensure adherence to quality standards, engineering guidelines, and regulatory requirements (if applicable).

Documentation
Maintain clear test documentation, including:
- test plans
- test cases
- test results
- automation architecture
Ensure documentation stays updated and accessible
Performance, Security, and Reliability Testing
- Conduct performance/load/stress testing and analyse results.
- Assist or collaborate on security testing initiatives.
- Propose improvements based on reliability and stability findings.
- Stakeholder Communication
- Communicate risks, test progress, and quality status clearly and proactively.
- Participate in sprint ceremonies, release readiness reviews, and retrospectives.
- Advocate for quality throughout the organisation
Required Experience
- Typically, 5–8 years of QA experience, with at least 2+ years in a senior or lead role.
- Demonstrated experience working in cross-functional squads or Agile teams.
- Proven track record of delivering high-quality releases in complex systems.
- Education & Certifications (Optional but Valuable)
Certifications such as:
- ISTQB Advanced Level
- Certified Software Quality Analyst (CSQA)
- Agile Testing certifications
- Cloud certifications (AWS/Azure) if relevant to the product domain
Quality & Process Expertise
- Ability to define and track quality metrics (defect trends, test coverage, release readiness indicators).
- Experience driving continuous improvement initiatives across the SDLC.
- Strong understanding of test documentation, version control, and structured defect management

Leadership & Collaboration
- Experience mentoring and supporting junior and mid-level QA engineers.
- Excellent communication skills for collaborating with Product/BA, Dev, and stakeholders.
- Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills
- Ability to analyse complex requirements and break them into clear, testable scenarios.
- Strong debugging skills and the ability to perform root cause analysis.
- Capability to identify quality risks early and influence mitigation decisions.
Technical Skills
- Strong proficiency in test planning, test design, and test execution across functional, regression, integration, and system testing.
- Good understanding of CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Azure DevOps).
- Knowledge of APIs and API testing tools (e.g., Postman).
- Experience with performance and load testing tools (e.g., JMeter, k6, or Gatling)
- Strong understanding of modern software development methodologies (Agile, Scrum, Kanban, Shift‑Left testing).
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (Azure)
