The Business Intelligence Team Leader is a key role responsible for managing a team of Business Intelligence Developers, overseeing the allocation of work, and ensuring projects are completed on time to the highest standard. The deliverables from this role provide stakeholders required data assets to quantify business performance and make strategic decisions. This includes design, implementation, documentation, testing and support of solutions requiring data aggregation from multiple sources into an efficient reporting mechanism, database/data warehouse development and report/dashboard development using appropriate tools.
What's involved
- Understand and translate business requirements into technical specifications
- Datawarehouse development and maintenance, including data modeling/data engineering
- Extract Transform Load (ETL)/Extract Load Transform (ELT) data pipeline development and maintenance
- Identify and resolve data quality/integrity issues
- Design and build BI and Analytics solutions including Reports and Dashboards
- Troubleshoot BI and Analytics tools, systems and software; performance-tune applications as necessary
- Test and document all new or modified BI systems, applications and programs
- Evaluate and improve existing BI and Analytics tools, systems and software
- Work with technical team to migrate programs to Production
- Maintain and support BI and Analytics platforms
- Provide regular updates to the Business Intelligence Manager on current work
- Manage and distribute workload across the team
- Interviewing and supporting new starters/additions to the team
- Supporting the well-being and development of developers through objective setting, regular 1-2-1 meetings and career guidance
- Represent the BI development team in wider business meetings in accordance to the BI teams values and principles
- Organise and orchestrate regular progress updates to the wider team
Required Experience and Skills
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
Data Warehouse analysis and implementation experience. (7+ years)
In-depth understanding of relational database structures, theories, principles, and practices. (7+ years)
Strong skills in coding, troubleshooting, tuning and debugging (7+ years)
Experience in relational databases and dimensional data modelling. (7+ years)
Data pipeline development (ETL/ELT). (7+ years)
Proven T-SQL development skills (Microsoft SQL Server 2016+). (7+ years)
Experience in modern BI and Analytics technologies (e.g. Tableau, Cognos, etc.) . (7+ years)
Experience in DevOps and software development life cycle. (7+ years)
Experience with Cloud computing environments (e.g. Microsoft Azure) . (5+ years)
Experience with Data Engineering and modern Data Warehouse technologies (e.g. Snowflake, Azure SQL Database) . (5+ years)
Familiarity with programming languages (e.g. .Net, PowerShell, Python) . (5+ years)
Strong statistical background. (5+ years)
Ability to understand a customer's business needs and translate needs into IT specific requirements.
Proficient in data analysis, defect identifications and resolutions.
Strong professional verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to work with little supervision and within changing priorities.
Ability to analyze requirements and troubleshoot problems.
Proven ability to take initiative and be innovative.
Mentoring of more junior members of the team.
Previous management experience is desired
