Position Summary

The Senior Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for leading mechanical design activities, implementing innovative and cost-effective product solutions to support the organization from prototype development through full-scale production launch and sustaining activities along the lifecycle of the product.

In this role as Senior Mechanical Engineer he/she provides the design and engineering, for all Cantel products, to ensure a fluent project development in accordance with Product Development procedure.

The Senior Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for developing products, designed to meet customer and product requirements in view of sterilization, biocompatibility, design for manufacturability, assembly, and test, considering low- and high-volume processes.  This work may be in context of Sustaining Engineering, New Product Development or Innovation. 

The Senior Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for supporting the R&D management, in project management in order to guarantee activities execution in accordance with ISO 13485 standards and Cantel’s internal Quality, Safety and Development procedures


  • Guarantee all activities related to products and processes development during project phases are executed in accordance with Product Development procedure.
  • Define system and sub-system product requirements from customer needs, ensuring clear traceability of design input to final design output.
  • Lead and coordinate cross-functional team activities, e.g. with Operations, Quality and Supply Chain
  • Support R&D leadership in project management.
  • Define new mechanical product architecture, analyze performances and provide feasibility studies.
  • Promote and lead review phases during product development (Risk analysis, DFMEA, PFMEA).
  • Realize studies, calculations, drawings, Engineering analysis (tolerance analysis, stress analysis, flow analysis, FEA) and the graphical representations, necessary to define the new concepts developed.
  • Realize the engineering of the equipment needed to test the products developed.

  • Select suitable technical solutions according to market requirements and economical preference.
  • Contribute in materials selection to guarantee product technical specifications.
  • Guarantee project deliverables in accordance with defined project plans.
  • Provide high quality technical reports supported by simulations and/or lab tests.
  • Guarantee updating, classification and filing of all project documentation in project dossier; these dossiers must be the base of the Device Master Record.
  • Support R&D team to guarantee sustaining of existing products, through change control, purchase price variances, value analysis, value engineering, corrective actions, preventive actions, etc.
  • Support R&D team during development of new ideas and products, actively participating to brainstorming sessions and feasibility studies.  
  • Act as Independent Reviewer on Phase Gate Reviews

Education Degree

Bachelor's Degree in Engineering General

Required Experience

  • A minimum 5 to 7 years of experience in Mechanical Engineering Design. Experience working in a regulated industry is preferred.
  • Experience working with Solid Works, CAD, MiniTab
  • Lean Green Belt or Six Sigma certification is desired
