Position Summary

The VP of Software Product Development will lead both the development of innovative Customer facing, commercial software and emerging technologies with a passion for delivering leading new products across our global business as well as the sustaining work needed to ensure no product is anything other than current, competitive and compelling. You will be responsible for development of the products and technologies essential to the engineering strategy to enable business unit strategies and growth objectives for STERIS.  You will identify opportunities to leverage innovation and technology to deliver competitive advantage.  In this role, you will also be charged with managing the technical debt due to acquired products and technologies as well as material changes in architecture and design. 

*This is a fully remote position. Qualified candidates must currently reside in the Continental United States. Location preference is within the Eastern or Central time zones due to global team management. 

What You'll Do as a VP Software Product Development

  • Set the technical vision and lead New Product Development for SPM / DWS with a focus on innovation.
  • Participate in the development and execution of an innovative technology roadmap for all global target markets.
  • Drive collaboration, standard work, best practice and alignment as appropriate across all Healthcare business units working with software and/or connectivity.
  • Implement a knowledge management strategy to capture critical design knowledge for future development efforts  
  • Establish STERIS strategy to maintain leadership voice in global and NA standards in decontamination and sterilization specific to automation.
  • Forge relationships with cross-functional partners balancing long-term strategic vision, and financial performance while moving and adjusting quickly to changing markets and environments.  
  • Align resources and advance the work associated with all Strategic Investment Proposal scenarios by imagining the solution and translating it into a design of software capabilities.  
  • Assess and evaluate emerging technologies, trends and innovation and provide insights and recommendations to BU leadership.
  • Collaborate with the key global marketing leaders and/or BU product experts to assess competitive technologies, identify gaps and countermeasures to develop products that will be a competitive differentiator in the market that will result in transformational, Customer-facing product initiatives.  
  • Coordinate cross-business unit technology opportunities and provide recommendations to Engineering and product owners across Healthcare.
  • Incorporate architecture strategies to deliver products in compliance with cybersecurity standards.
  • Implement AI, tech and automation strategies to drive efficiency and velocity
  • Identify risk factors to existing tech assets and determine needed mitigations and related timelines.
  • Identify opportunities to commercialize STE IP through internal, licensing, partnerships or acquisition.
  • Lead all technology due diligence requirements for the business
  • Deliver projects on time, within operating budget, while achieving product cost targets and meeting objectives for performance and product quality
  • Lead and develop a culture of innovation, quality and operational excellence with a focus on continuous improvement in all areas of product development and business performance.
  • Attract, retain, and develop strong talent. Encourage collaboration and engagement while upskilling the organization. Promote diversity and inclusion within the organization. 

The Experience, Skills and Abilities Needed

Required: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree Required
  • Fifteen (15) years of impactful leadership in technical (engineering, IT, and/or scientific) innovation
  • Five (5) years’ experience as a leader of multiple R&D or technology teams and/or multiple site teams
  • Five (5) years of experience managing teams responsible for software development of commercial software products for a broad range of diverse and complicated solutions marketed to an array of global customers
  • Experience leading a team that develops commercial software that is on prem and in the cloud
  • Experience leading innovation transformation, implementing new technologies to enable growth and create a differentiated and effective product for Customers
  • Leadership experience that includes, team building, employee motivation, employee development, and coaching


Preferred: 

  • Master’s Degree, MBA or PhD preferred
  • Preferred experience in software applications in regulated environments / markets
  • Global product development preferred
  • Demonstrated track record for delivering innovation resulting in commercial success
  • Experience with on-prem to cloud migration preferred
  • Experience managing fully remote teams preferred

  • Extensive experience in creating innovative strategies and execution for rapid and meaningful growth.
  • Excellent communication skills at all levels from senior executive to technology staff.
  • Track record of credibility and collaborating with cross-functional business executives and ability to drive change through influence and persuasion.
  • Strong business acumen that demonstrates a clear understanding of impact of innovation and technology has on business strategy and a passion for delivering innovation results.
  • Demonstrated ability to transform the level of innovation in a technology organization.

Pay range for this opportunity is $157,250.00 - $235,725.00. This position is eligible for bonus participation.

Minimum pay rates offered will comply with county/city minimums, if higher than range listed.  Pay rates are based on a number of factors, including but not limited to local labor market costs, years of relevant experience, education, professional certifications, foreign language fluency, etc.
