Position Summary

Provides on-site support for the reprocessing of surgical instruments and trays to contracted facilities in compliance with the Department of Health, TJC, OSHA, CDC, AAMI and AORN standards and facilities goals and policies. Position level will be determined by previous job related experience, performance and certification requirements. 

Duties
  • Supports daily operations of all activities that relate to the reprocessing of reusable medical supplies and instrumentation including decontamination, cleaning, assembly, wrapping, sterilization, and storage processes within all set professional standards and regulations
  • Operates all mechanical machinery; cart washers, instrument washers, steam sterilizers, low temp sterilizers, ultrasonic and drying cabinets, within sterile processing.  
  • Uses established policies and procedures to complete work assignments 
  • Proficiency with all areas of sterile processing including decontamination, cleaning, assembly, wrapping, sterilization, and storage processes with all set professional standards and regulations. 
  • Able to perform assembly on all instrument trays and sets with proficiency.  
  • Able to prioritize work load in the absence of Lead/Supervisor. 
  • Refers all decisions beyond personal scope of responsibilities to IMS leadership. 
  • Reports broken instrumentation and able to anticipate replacement needs. 
  • Supports and adheres to Steris IMS policies and procedures 
  • Participates in in-services and educational offerings provided by Steris IMS in the facility 
  • Serves as a preceptor for new employees and/or performs quality functions (i.e. tray audits) 
  • Provides an educational in-service to the department staff annually. 
  • Exhibits professional behavior in all telephone and electronic communications 
  • Adheres to Steris IMS dress requirements, is neat and well-groomed at all times 
  • Represents Steris IMS, self and profession positively in all public arenas 
  • Arrives at facility at scheduled time and is consistently ready for work assignments 
  • Communicates in a professional manner to all hospital staff and company employees

Education Degree
  • High School Diploma or GED
Required Experience
  • 2+ years with demonstrated proficiency with all SPD Technician responsibilities including a solid proficiency and ability to work independently with all tray sets 

  • Basic certification (CRCST) required. 

  • Additional certification required (CIS, CHL, FCS and/or Endo) (i.e. instrument specialist, flexible endoscope) 

Preferred Experience
  • Completion of a Sterile Processing/Surgical Technologist program preferred.
