The Senior Controls Engineer will assess current operational controls systems technologies, as well as business systems, developing a strategy to support and upgrade current and new operations. The Senior Control Engineer reports to a Senior Manager of Facilities Engineering and will develop the controls strategy, facility roadmaps, and define action plans needed to execute the long-term controls program for key STERIS operational areas. In this role, the Senior Controls Engineer will travel to STERIS AST sites and utilize consultative troubleshooting and project management skills to identify gaps and recommend controls technologies strategies.

What You Will Do
Strategy Development
- Assess the AST Americas controls systems footprint, to identify needs/opportunities to sustain and upgrade the variety of currently used controls technologies.
- Upon completion of the assessment, develop and communicate the long-term implementation strategy, including prioritization of highest leverage opportunities, timing, projected costs, targeted technology partners and internal resource requirements.
Implement the Controls Technology Strategy:
- Oversee the specification development process, establish maintenance, service, and qualification protocols of technology systems. Ensure thorough and compliant documentation is available.
- Lead the vendor selection and capital appropriation request processes.
- Lead all engineering, purchase, fabrication, installation, and factory acceptance phases of the project implementation process.
- Identify the skills necessary and develop the training programs required to acquire and develop operators and technicians capable running and maintaining installed equipment.
- Develop and implement methods to monitor and measure effectiveness of implementations; lead corrective actions, as applicable.
What You Will Need to Be Sucessful
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Electrical Engineering, required.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in advanced engineering areas, including PLC/DCS controls interaction and/or automation of manufacturing lines, conveyance systems, machine interface, and software solutions, required; 15 years of related experience preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of project management and reporting experience, required; 5 years of related experience preferred.
- Demonstrated positive impact to the business that translated to clear, bottom-line results by implementing step-function changes.
- Experience with and demonstrated skills in analyzing business needs, determining appropriate solutions and/or opportunities, developing lean implementation strategies, and deploying them.
- Experience with deploying new technology.
- Successful experience with effectiveness across multi-site operations.
- Experience managing internal and external partners on significant capital programs ($1M+).
- Strong analytical, creative problem solving, critical thinking, and organizational skills.
- Excellent presentation skills with the ability to effectively communicate ideas, goals and results.

Compensation Data
The salary range for this position is $100,000 to $125,000.
