Senior Mechanical Engineer

Position Summary

Performs engineering assignments with a focus on Operations Repairs and completes mechanical systems across instrument families. Provides Engineering leadership and skills knowledge to existing Repair Operations, and Quality teams. 


  • Reviews, analyzes and completes mechanical engineering projects to ensure repair operations are able to complete repairs by customer delivery dates in conformance with quality requirements. 
  • Designs, measures, and documents mechanical parts and processes for use in the repair of surgical devices and instrument families.
  • Conducts research that tests and analyzes the fit, form, and function of new components and the feasibility, design, operation and performance of existing equipment, components, systems and processes.
  • Creates solid models and engineering drawings with a focus on manufacturability.
  • Develops, sources and evaluates prototype designs; design tooling, jigs and fixtures.
  • Conducts failure analysis, identify critical components and develop Bill of Materials.
  • Specifies system components that conform to engineering design and performance specifications.
  • Coordinates with purchasing and the production floor to find suppliers and vendors.
  • Creates part numbers for components and assemblies for purchasing, inventory control, and factory use.
  • Projects planning and scheduling; reports progress to department manager.

Education Degree

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering

Required Experience

  • Must have 5-8 years of experience with the following in a regulated industry (medical preferred):
  • Translating voice of customer input into specific design requirements. 
  • Materials engineering, metallography, and working with polymers, and plastics. Must have the ability to build prototypes as well as reverse engineer mechanical parts.  Mechanical design experience. 
  • Parametric modeling.  SolidWorks strongly preferred. 
  • Production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
  • Design control methods, including verification/validation testing techniques.
  • Project management.
  • Computer Skills - Must be proficient with all Microsoft Office applications; previous experience with Oracle preferred.
